We were lucky to catch up with Julia, Charles, & Andrew recently and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, Charles, & Andrew, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Julia (lead vocals/bass guitar) – I started out by playing the cello in orchestra throughout middle/high school. I also had started having a love for heavy metal and dreamed of being in a rock band someday. I had gotten my first bass guitar at the age of 15 for Christmas and saw an ad at the local music shop to form a band. I did not start out singing until our drummer’s grandfather (our sound engineer) say I should give it a shot. I would always sing the little mermaid growing up. Learning how to train myself to sing AND play bass was a challenge and something I’m still learning today but I truly feel at home when performing. I can’t wait to grow even bigger as a band someday.
Charles (guitarist/backing vocals) – I always wanted to play the guitar ever since I watched SpongeBob shred during the SpongeBob movie. In middle school, I heard about the school’s guitar club and joined it and fell in love with the instrument. I learned mainly with YouTube videos and watching people cover songs and replicating what they did. Knowing what I do now, I would probably have sped up my learning process back then by approaching it with more discipline in a structured musical education method. My most essential skills were training my ear from the jump to learn songs and recognize things melodically. Performing is probably my favorite thing to do as a band, and it’s something I continue to strive to improve at.
Andrew (drums) – I grew up wanting to be a guitar player but I came from a family of drummers, so one day I sat behind the kit and decided to pick that up. I played a lot on the kit and essentially learned through imitating records and other drummers I knew. I didn’t take any actual lessons until college when I had an actual drum instructor, but I still learn most of what I play through listening. The way I learn is by taking every opportunity that comes my way. Sometimes it’s difficult to get in time to practice. The busier you are the harder it is to learn new things. I think that the sky is the limit with our band.

Julia, Charles, & Andrew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a band, we are a strong 3 piece consisting of lead female vocals/bass, guitar, and drums. Growing up, we have played for countless bars, venues, and private events including a wide variety of covers. This includes learning music from 1960s- modern era whether it’s classic rock, emo, punk, metal, just to name a few. Learning all different styles of music has really helped us create music and finding our own style, we truly don’t know! Moving forward as a band, we are now found a love for transforming our style to heavy alternative metal. Our music style is a changing tide, as we discover more about who we are – so whatever is mostly on Spotify is a little chaotic! We can’t wait to share our new music with everyone. Our new style that we’re pursuing going forward takes a lot of influence from nu-metal and metalcore bands that we love, and we’re implementing elements from those genres into our new music to come into our musical element.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for us is audience feedback and connecting with the everyone. They give us the energy and the fuel to support our passion towards music and we appreciate all of our fans. Nothing is more exhilarating than hearing them sing with us or clap along with us when we interact with them during a song. We also love hearing what they have to say about our music and what we’re doing on our journey.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe everyone should talk more about people’s music at social gatherings, on social media, and upcoming events. People can also make it out to local shows more to support them because it really helps out.
