Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julia Armet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
My passion for creating inclusive remote workplaces grew out of a need for community. When I was 25, I began building a remote team of independent contractors for a scaling technology company. As the Director of Community, I realized that to create loyalty in a gig economy, professionals had to feel a sense of connectedness to their work. Despite team members being geographically separate and highly autonomous, I began inviting them to come together in weekly virtual spaces. I saw it as my chief responsibility as the team leader to be the facilitator of virtual community- and create a sense of place where people could show up and share intimate aspects of themselves. Quite naturally, a culture of connection was co-created over time. The whole experience instilled in me a knowingness that an inclusive workplace begins with a leader’s commitment to bringing people closer together by overcoming barriers to connection.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being a neurodivergent woman, I’ve often operated in professional environments that weren’t designed for me. I’ve had to work hard to create my own sense of inclusion. For a long time, I carried a fear of being socially ostracized for “being too smart” or “being too reserved.” I learned to mask my autistic tendencies, hide my sensory challenges, and even go so far as not take credit for my contribution. Through learning to navigate the professional world and create my own space within it, I can now say that my greatest gifts are in fact because of my divergent thinking and sensory awareness. The more visible I am, the more empowered I feel. Ultimately, I’m here to inspire others who may be masking in the workplace to know that it’s safe to be seen. It’s safe to bring your full self to work.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve been fascinated with the internet my whole life, especially the power of mass media to broadcast stories, connect people, and impact lives. I see social media as the doorway to the World Wide Web of connection, and this perspective definitely influences how I show up and share. Whether I’m expressing myself vulnerably or driving forward a professional initiative, I see social engagement as a human-to-human exchange. I’m constantly connecting, contributing, and creating with the awareness that human beings are on the other side of the screen.
While every business owner can go about creating brand awareness on their own terms, you have the potential to go as deep as you desire with your social relationships. I’ve found that you can receive so much joy on social media when you build your relationships with intention, presence, and thoughtfulness.
