We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Aminov. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Alright, Julia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I currently manage my own social media because I enjoy the creativity and planning that it entails. One thing I didn’t realize until I started my own business is that managing social media can really be a big and ongoing job at times. It’s important that people/potential clients can get a really good understanding of who you are and what unique value you provide just by looking at your page. If spending a few hours a week planning, recording, and writing captions is something that you have time for, I highly recommend it. I enjoy the creative process of content creation. On the other end of that, if you’re someone who doesn’t have a ton of time for social media and spend most if not all of your time time for your business in other ways, it may be better to hire someone else to manage social media. You can still work closely with them to properly represent your brand and have the time you need for all the other tasks in your business.

Julia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a wellness and strength coach. I get to know people and create custom wellness programs that help them find comfort in learning about their bodies so they can see what they’re capable of. I love that what I do is not a “one size fits all” approach to wellness and health. I think my expertise is unique in that I am certified as both a yoga instructor and personal trainer, so I am equipped to help people with different movement goals. In addition to that, as a health coach, I support people who are looking to learn how to have a better relationship with their bodies and minds. We don’t really grow up being taught how important it is to know how to take care of ourselves and that it really doesn’t take a lot to be well. My approach to working with my clients is all about what works for them and how to guide them through making decisions for themselves that make them feel inspired and good.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s always been important to me is establishing trust and connection with people I meet in yoga classes, at the gym I coach at, and on social media. I found that once people understand what kind of space I held for them in/before/after classes, and experience the value I can provide, they feel safe to come to me for help or questions. People frequently come up to me after class and ask if they can work with me one on one because my approach to movement is rooted through compassion and meeting yourself where you’re at. I think of course, the service a professional provides is important but the key is the person behind the service. People want to support an individual who has similar values and that they can feel connected to.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
What I’ve learned for myself is the importance of running a business with a mission that comes from the passion or need to solve a specific problem rather than from the intention to make money. It’s so easy to get caught up in the many ways a business can be profitable and then, result in an overworked, directionless and tired CEO and team. I ask myself what it is that I can do, hours, days, weeks, on end that I feel so passionately could help people and keep that the priority, I was so burnt out trying to be successful financially from day 1, and had to learn the hard way that the foundation of your business needs to come from what strengths you have that others can benefit from. Success comes from the heart work.
