We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jules Wortman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jules below.
Jules, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents have been such a rock solid foundation for me as a human, all the way around. While, at times, I wanted to run from their parenting, it was the best I could have asked for. The toughness, the honesty, the curves, the discipline, the Christian household, the “you will learn” and the encouragement molded me into who I am today. It was not easy and boy did I figure a lot of things out the hard way, but all-in-all the approach to parenting my brother and me made us the people we are today. Such cool and smart people. Love them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Drive, honestly, personality and building on the skills that were pretty much embedded in me from birth. “quick wit, problem solver and a good storyteller.” Additionally, always treating everyone with respect and giving people time. It is important to be a thoughtful and patient person even if time is constrained, you are in the middle of a big event or whatever the case may be. You just need to be calm and accommodating, especially in PR, as it is a people business and respect for others is something we should all be doing. Anyway, my point is, these traits have helped shape my reputation, along with my direct approach. I am not one to side step questions or play head games to make something fit the right mold. The best way to get something done, is be honest, direct and good at it. You know you have accomplished this when you hear others compliment your approach and the phone calls come in.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Usually it is word of mouth or those who have seen your results. You are your best source. Just be the person others want to be, in the good way, of course. Always listen, always talk to mentors and always take the phone calls or go after a client you feel conviction to work with.
