We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jules Fleming a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jules, thanks for joining us today. Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
As an entrepreneur, delivering an exceptional customer experience is our top priority at Jules Fleming Artistry. This experience begins from the moment we connect with our clients and remains consistent throughout the entire process. Beyond offering Luxury on Location beauty services, our focus lies in the initial client interaction. When a client reaches out, they become an integral part of the JFA family. We eagerly listen to their details, style preferences, and aspirations for an elevated experience. Our team of highly trained artists, committed to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends, collaborates directly with clients to create their perfect look. We provide our artists with abundant learning opportunities, share tips and tricks, and encourage collaboration for mutual growth. Following the event, we diligently follow up with every client to ensure their expectations were met, looking forward to future collaborations. As our company expands, we prioritize maintaining this consistent experience. We carefully hand pick new team members and educate them on the distinctive qualities that define Jules Fleming Artistry. This ensures our brand is upheld across all territories, guaranteeing each JFA client receives the experience they deserve. If you’re considering expanding your own business, we recommend collecting your clients’ feedback. Understand what they value about your brand and find ways to preserve that essence, regardless of your company’s growth. Stay humble.

Jules, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey in the world of makeup and artistry began during my time in theater school, where I worked on the production of the Opera Mikado. The vivid colors, intricate patterns, and captivating textures of the kimonos and backdrops struck a chord deep within me. This led me to delve into the art of Geisha makeup, igniting a lifelong passion. I took this enthusiasm to Chicago, where I enrolled in cosmetology school, setting the stage for a career spanning over three decades. From major makeup brands to runway events, film and TV, special effects, national ad campaigns, and international editorial work, I’ve ventured into diverse avenues. Eventually, I established my own dynamic makeup team, driven by a shared commitment to uplift and deliver a distinctive, elevated experience to every client. With a solid foundation in teaching and mentoring, I’ve had the privilege of working with numerous brands, imparting my knowledge as an artistry trainer, and collaborating with emerging talents. Drawing from these experiences, I envisioned a luxury team of passionate, creative professionals, united by camaraderie and a dedication to excellence. My Chicago team thrived, prompting me to extend my roots back to Florida, where I established teams spanning Central and South Florida, including the keys. Amidst managing these teams, I continue to find joy in my creative pursuits, whether on set, in editorial spreads, boudoir shoots, or film projects.
At Jules Fleming Artistry, we take immense pride in the team we have created, and the brand we have fostered. We are delighted that our team is comprised of like-minded, kind, creative, and outgoing individuals all dedicated to the same goal; ensuring that every client not only looks but feels their absolute best. Our expertise lies in Bridal, special events, editorial, film and TV, boudoir, and any setting where makeup artistry and hair styling take center stage.
The team at Jules Fleming Artistry upholds the highest standards in the beauty industry, and we’re privileged to have achieved notable milestones together. We’re honored to have been bestowed with Wedding Wire and The Knot’s Couples Choice Award for 2022-2023, and to have become a preferred vendor for Disney’s Fairytale Weddings and Honeymoons! This is all a testament to the satisfaction of our many delighted clients who have awarded us with all 5-star reviews!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We are so grateful to say that the most beneficial source of new clients for our team is word of mouth and referrals from our satisfied clients, as well as positive online reviews! Of course, outside of that, a combination of social media presence, and networking within the beauty and fashion industry is another great way to continue to grow too! We have also built a strong portfolio and we consistently showcase and update our work on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and our website! Additionally, we always love forming relationships with photographers, stylists, models, and event planners that can lead to collaborative opportunities and referrals. Finally, participating in industry events, workshops, and trade shows can provide valuable exposure and connections within the event community!

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
As a makeup artist, building strong client relationships and brand loyalty involves effective communication, personalization, follow-ups for feedback, educational content sharing, active social media engagement, and consistent branding, delivering top-notch service, seeking feedback, acknowledging special occasions, and staying updated on industry trends allows us to create a relationship with each client on a more individualized level. These strategies work collectively to establish a loyal client base that not only values our artistry but also trusts our expertise.
