We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julana Dizon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julana below.
Julana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
The first step in any artistic career is learning the craft and how to use the tools. I’ve always learned best by studying others — when I began hosting and producing my own travel show, I watched every nature and travel documentary I could find. I studied how they structured the show, what type of shots they used, and ultimately how they put it all together to make a compelling story.
The biggest obstacle that has stood in my way is perfectionism. If I could go back and give myself advice, I would tell myself that done is better than perfect, and to just get started!

Julana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Julana and I am a Filipino-American television host & actor. My dream job was always to work with animals, and after graduating with a biology degree from Florida State University, I began my career as an exotic animal trainer. Several years later my work as an animal educator provided me with a gateway into the Entertainment industry!
As an on-camera host, I provide insight into the lives of inspiring people who want to make a difference in our world and stories that highlight outdoor adventure, travel, and wildlife destinations.
Last year I created and produced “Wild Adventures” – a show that took me around the world in search of the coolest up close and personal animal encounters. My mission is to help educate travelers about ethical animal tourism through increasing the understanding and respect for wildlife around the world,
Season 1 of Wild Adventures is available to watch on YouTube — Feel free to check it out (linked below)!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would have invested in SkillShare years ago! Sometimes trying to learn things from YouTube is great, but other times it’s overwhelming and hard to find straight answers. I learn best with a structured course and teacher to interact with. Skillshare is great because the classes are organized and I feel confidant knowing that I am learning from a professional.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of creating wildlife and travel content for me is simply knowing that I’ve taught somebody something new. I love being able to spread knowledge because the more we know about something, the more we will care about it.
I have a quiz series called “Wildlife Wednesday” that I do every week on Instagram and it’s so rewarding to get messages from my audience saying their kids love learning animal facts… even my real-life adult friends tell me they love testing their brains!
