We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Juice GQ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Juice , appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I really got the idea for Tycoon Sports from working as a Creative Director and manager for a popular photography studio in Atlanta, Cam Kirk Studios. While working there I began to notice that vast differences between the teams of musicians/ artists and athletes. The labels would have large teams of 6-10 people to make sure everything went great, while an athlete might have a team of 1 or 2 people handling all their affairs. This made a lot of sense why the numbers for “athletes going broke” was and has been so high for so many years.
So I decided to start a company that can help the new age of athletes that have to use social media, marketing, and branding to push themselves independently outside of their sport, so when they hang up their jerseys they have other avenues to explore.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im the Founder of Tycoon Sports Media Group, where we help athletes with brand development, marketing and creative campaigns. This includes everything from content to brand deals and even NIL content and guidance. We want to help athletes understand their creative power in this new landscape of sports. Now there are more athletes than ever in front of microphones and we just want to help the next generation make the right decisions with their creativity and their funding.
Our main services include Trainers Corner and Game Coverage Packages, where we supply content of athletes’ training, workout activities, and game highlights for scouting and social media purposes.
As for myself, I’m just a young black man from New Jersey, that’s trying to inspire the next generation the best way I can. Starting my life out, I was an athlete with a Ball is Life dream that eventually deflated. I wasn’t going to let that one “L” in my life define me and what my life could be. Even though it hurt like hell knowing that the dream has to stop, I’m glad I was determined enough to come back to the sports industry and be able to make a real contribution. That’s really what I do it for.
Right now I’m most proud of the our NIL GameChangers Workshop. This is a 2 hour session I teach athletes and their parents the basics of NIL and how to navigate building their personal brand. This is extremely important due to athletes being able to cash in on their brand earlier than the professional level. One wrong decision can cost them their future.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Just us existing still is illustrating our resilience to be completely honest. I’m not even supposed to be this far. And I’m still figuring this everything out as I go. I can’t sit up here and say I’m an expert in my field. I know what I know and I constantly surround myself with people that are educating me and on the things that I don’t know.
As we grow and partner with the right people, brands, and athletes we’ll be able to continue to elevate and take things to newer heights and levels.

Any advice for managing a team?
Honestly, just remembering everyone is human, has emotions, and has bills. Everyone has the pressure on them to succeed or at least be comfortable so when building your team or managing it at least, it’s important to put love into them manage them with those things in mind. I know operating by the numbers and algorithms are the best way to run the business most times but when you find a balance I feel like your team respects you a lot more and ultimately will go harder for you in their everyday work.
