Jugashree, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am definitely satisfied with what I do. Creative people enjoy a lot of mental and physical freedom.
In all honesty, I knew what I wished to do when I was at school. I knew I wanted to be a creative person or a businesswoman and my parents always supported me in that direction. At that time, I wanted to be a professional artist and never considered a regular job.
Having said that, being a professional artist has also provided me with a wonderful outlet for express and creative pursuits on my canvas. It fuels my creativity and keeps me deeply connected to my inner self in ways nothing else can, but the journey is not always easy.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My interest in drawing began as a child. As a child, I became fascinated with drawing through my mother’s small drawings and small embroidery designs. This led me to pursue a formal art career. Our family-run business Gyanajuga Publication was in those days when other artists were hired to design the cover for great authors’ books. It reminds me of the cover design I had for one of the greatest authors in India, which was highly praised. Early in my education, my interest in art helped me pursue a career in fine art, which never stopped and led me to obtain both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Fine Arts, among many other accomplishments.” Upon moving to the United States with my husband, my artwork reached a whole new level as I started working with art organizations in a California-based company with wonderful artists as well as participating in local art galleries and partnering with non-profit organizations. Each time I create something new, I am encouraged by the positive feedback received from people, galleries, and buyers.
The choice I made to become an artist was mine. My art and painting are series-based and realistic. In spite of this, my favorite theme is water lilies. I often depict moving water in my paintings. My technique involves painting both thin and thick layers on the same canvas. The impressionist style is my favorite for painting lilies on canvas where I sometimes use my fingers to paint them.
Our most creative moments are spent alone as artists, and our most inspiring moments are derived from our connections with others. To date, I would say that this art journey has brought me a variety of experiences and a wealth of knowledge, thus I would say that this journey has not been an easy one, since we must devote ourselves to it and take it seriously, which requires discipline and dedication.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
As an artist, it hurts my heart that many artists are flocking to these schemes to make money, for today’s “starving artist” is more prevalent than ever before.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As an artist by profession, and for as long as I have been alive, art has consistently been the aspect of my life that makes me feel undeniably worthy and complete. Whenever I create something, it feels like I return to myself. I find that it enables me to stand out from the crowd, to feel different, and most importantly, it allows me to recognize what makes me unique. I have been able to express my feelings through art where words cannot. Creativity has helped me deal with anxiety throughout my life. I work on genuine, unique, and natural pieces.
