Judith, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
When I moved from Houston to San Antonio, it was a culture shock. I struggled to find people who looked like me or beauty professionals who really understood my hair and style. During COVID, I started doing hair in college just to make extra money, and people kept asking if I knew anyone who did lashes, sew-ins, or nails and honestly, I was wondering the same thing.
That’s when God gave me the idea: create a one-stop beauty shop where women could get everything done under one roof. San Antonio is a military city, people are always coming and going so having a reliable home base for beauty just made sense.
That’s how Beauty Bar by Ju was born. A space built for community, connection, and confidence. Everyone here does phenomenal work, and I can’t wait for y’all to see what’s next!
Judith, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started doing hair in college during COVID as a side hustle it was a fun way to meet people and make extra money, but it quickly turned into a real passion. While studying business at UTSA, I realized I was living what I was learning and fell in love with building something of my own.
When I moved to San Antonio, I learned the black population was only 7% and only 3% of that being black women. I also learned it has 5 military bases so there’s always people coming and going. There was definitely a need for professional black spaces and that’s what inspired me to create Beauty Bar by Ju: a luxurious, welcoming salon where you can get all your professional services done at the same place! We specialize in braids, locs, waxes and brows, haircuts and cornrows, etc. so come check us out!

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Honestly, the only thing shaping my entrepreneurial journey is God. I trust Him to guide my decisions, my team, and the timing of every move. My job is to stay true to my brand, my vision, and the bigger picture knowing that even setbacks are part of moving forward. Without His guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m excited to see how far I can go by His grace.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built the audience for my businesses by starting with clarity about my niche. I knew the type of clients I wanted, the look I was going for, and the vibe I could authentically maintain because it had to reflect me.
As a business owner, your brand is a direct representation of who you are. So ask yourself: Who am I? What do I like? What’s my style? Once you figure that out, you can attract the right clients and trust me, if you love it, someone out there will too. You might be surprised how much they’re willing to invest in it, so don’t be afraid to go for it!
