We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Judica Salmon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Judica below.
Judica , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My first sale came from pure determination and a lot of free samples. I was handing them out like crazy—especially to people who I felt could be prospective customers. And if someone didn’t have any skin problems, I’d tell them to give the sample to a friend or family member. That approach worked like a charm. Once people saw their results, they didn’t even ask about the price—they just wanted more. For my second and current business, I haven’t been as generous with samples yet, and it’s no coincidence that I haven’t landed my first sale.

Judica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! My name is Judica Salmon, and I’m the founder of So Tropica, a natural skincare brand. I’ve always been fascinated by how nature can heal, nourish, and enhance not only the skin, but what ever may ail the body and that curiosity is what led me into the skincare industry.
So Tropica is all about infusing skincare with nature’s best and creating products that utilize the vitality that can only be found in fruits and vegetables. Our mission is simple: to help people feel confident in their skin without worrying about harsh, unknown chemicals.
Right now, our signature product is our Stretch Mark Serum, designed to fade marks and restore skin’s natural glow using organic, vegan ingredients.
What sets So Tropica apart is its potential. Today’s generation is all about looksmaxing—maximizing their potential through wellness, clean eating, and self-care. Our products fit perfectly into that lifestyle. They don’t just deliver results; they are trustworthy, and turn everyday skincare into a self-care ritual.
I’m most proud of how far So Tropica has come from just an idea that was etched out in my journal to something tangible that people can connect with. What I want people to know about me and my brand is that everything I create comes from sincerity, reverse engineering, and a genuine desire to make people feel good in their own skin. At So Tropica, it’s only natural.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My answer is René Descartes, and the book is Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting One’s Reason and of Seeking Truth in the Sciences. I’ve resonated with Descartes’ character ever since I learned that every day, when his friends would come to check up on him and ask him to play a game of badminton, they’d find him in his room lying in bed, wide awake. When they’d ask what he was doing, he’d simply reply: “thinking.” Some may say that this is the origin of bedrotting. No, but seriously, I’ve downloaded some of my most profound concepts, theories, and ideas doing this. The book is lauded for its encouragement of renegades who dare to challenge the norm—not with chaos and debauchery, but with ethics and conventionality. That philosophy has shaped the way I approach business: questioning assumptions, trusting my reasoning, and believing that clarity and creativity are born from reflection.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clientele has been personal connection. When people try my products and see real results, they can’t help but tell their friends and family. Early on, I gave out free samples to people who struggled with skin issues, and that created genuine buzz. Customers became my best promoters because they trusted what they experienced firsthand. Social media has also helped me expand that reach—sharing before-and-after results, testimonials, and behind-the-scenes moments.
