We were lucky to catch up with Juan Sandoval recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Juan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I first started thinking about starting my own business I was think of a name that would be short and simple. My middle name is Edward, which I decided to use the first 2 letter of my middle name Ed. At the same time it has a little bit more meaning to me as I am also paying homage to my grandparents. My grandpas name was Eddie and my grandma’s name was Dolores. When combined their first letter of their name it makes Ed.
Juan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up I used to love making cakes and trying new recipes. After a while I lost that passion. After graduating high school I really didn’t know what I wanted to do so I started working retail which I did not like. It wasn’t until I started working in a Kitchen at Kate Weiser Chocolate where I re-lit my passion of baking. I ended up going to culinary school where I received my associates in baking and pastry. Which was about the same time I stared my business. I mostly work out of my home and attend markets/pop up when I can. On my website I do off different types of Cake Jars, cookies, custom cake, custom iced cookies, vegan cake jars.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
When you visit my website at the bottom of the page I offer a mailing list to keep in touch with my clients. It is optional but if you do sign up you can get many perks anywhere from a discount code to update about new products. We also have a loyalty program where you can earn a points for every $5 you spent. You can redeem your points to get free items or even a discount.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
To find new client I find that social media works the best. One example is Facebook. Facebook has local groups that I have joined where people are looking for someone to make a cake for them. Many time I tend to get tagged on post where they are wanting custom cake or cookies. By doing this I am able to gain new customers.
