Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juan Salas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Juan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I have worked is my current Horror film, “House of Dolls’ starring Dee Wallace ( ET, Cujo ) and Meeko Gattuso ” Euphoria”, due out later this year. The experience of working with Dee was a delight, so much knowledge obtained through years of experience. and well, she worked with Spielberg so it was so meaningful to me to be around such energy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began at The Art Institute of Dallas TX, then began doing Music Videos for local Artists. eventually working with Major Labels on various projects. I used Music Videos to sharpen my skills. From there I started entering local Film Competitions winning a few Awards. Eventually I made the leap into Full Length Features winning several Film Festivals with my 3rd effort “The Wolf Catcher”. From there I went on to a Project I’m most proud of , “The Devil’s Ring” starring Damian Chapa of “Street Fighter” with Jean Claude Van Dam, which earned my my 1st Nation Distribution Deal with Gravitas Ventures.
And now , “House of Dolls” starring Dee Wallace ( ET, Cujo, The Hills Have Eyes) and Meeko Gattuso ( Euphoria) .
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
My Journey as Filmmaker has been a long one of hard work and dedication that has led me to many Opportunities and even Locations I never thought possible. Its definitely not without its trials and tribulations, in fact many times I wonder why am I doing this. Its the fruits of your labor that make everything worth it. Its when the Screen rolls at Premiere night that makes your enjoy the Process.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There is a quote I once heard that I would say significantly impacted my Management and Entrepreneurial Thinking, and that is the 5 P’s. “Proper Preparation prevents Poor Performance” . Once I heard that everything made sense from a very logical stance. Ive applied that and have had nothing but Results since.
