We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Juan Pliego a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Opening a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people in need is a noble and impactful endeavor. With a strong vision and mission, this nonprofit can make a positive difference in the lives of those who require assistance the most. By focusing on the needs of the community, this organization can provide essential services and support to individuals facing various challenges.
One of the key aspects of this nonprofit would be to identify the specific needs of the target population. Whether it is providing food, shelter, or any other critical support, understanding the unique circumstances and challenges faced by individuals in need is crucial. This will enable the organization to develop effective programs and initiatives that address these needs directly.
Collaboration and partnerships with other community organizations, businesses, and other agencies are also vital for the success of the nonprofit. By working together with like-minded entities, the organization can leverage resources, expertise, and networks to maximize its impact. These collaborations can help in securing funding, volunteers, and other necessary resources to sustain and expand the nonprofit’s activities.
The nonprofit would focus on building a strong volunteer base. Volunteers are the backbone of any nonprofit and can contribute their time, skills, and passion to support the organization’s mission. Recruiting and training volunteers who are passionate about helping others will not only enhance the nonprofit’s capacity but also create a sense of belonging and ownership within the community.
In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the nonprofit, developing a robust fundraising strategy is essential. This can include organizing fundraising events, applying for grants, seeking corporate sponsorships, and implementing individual donor campaigns.
Overall, opening a nonprofit organization with the aim of helping people in need requires careful planning, strategic partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and a sustainable funding model. With the right approach and a strong commitment to the mission, this nonprofit can create a lasting impact and improve the lives of individuals facing adversity.
Welcome to Camdyn’s House of Hope

Juan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Juan Pliego, I was born in Oaxaca, Mexico in a small town called Santa Gertrudis which was 25 minutes away from the Oaxaca City, I have been raised by two wonderful parents that have taught me everything I know about how to treat the people around me.
I have worked really hard to get to where I am today, from working in the AG industry to making my way up in the Financial Industry, Losing everything, then starting up again in the Mental Health Industry and then returning back to the Financial World. Life has been nothing but a roller coaster full of emotions and ups and downs. But we never take those moments for granted because its what has molded me into what i am today.
Currently working with Angelo Naemi, the founder of the Non-Profit Organization names Camdyn’s House of Hope, An organization that has been established to help individuals in need. Im proud to call this man a friend and also a mentor, this man has not only been there during difficult times in my life but has also helped mold me into the person I am today. Angelo is not just the founder of this organization, but hes also a community member that helps as much as he can no matter what that would require. He is an inspiration to me and other younger people. and Its a pleasure to join on this new project with him.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One instance when I had to make life changing decision was when I unfortunately had to leave my Job of almost 10 years due to work environment. Thats when I received a really good opportunity to work in the mental health field and till this day i considered it the biggest pivot in my life. But that pivot not only gave me an opportunity it also changed my perspective in life.

Any advice for managing a team?
Ive Managed a team if 4 all the way to a team of 25 and let me say its all the same. Obviously having more people its more work that’s a given. But treating people like humans is what’s going to make or break the workplace environment. My advice is always treating people like you would like to be treated, See, hear and acknowledge everyone and most importantly set the standards, everyone should know what to do, when to do it and how to do it, there should be no surprise when and if when strong conversations are to happen.
