Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juan Peña. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Juan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I realized since I was like 15 years old I didn’t wanted to have a regular job, I always wanted to show my point of view on everything I do, so when I turned 18, I started to think “what am I gonna do with my life” I was studying psychology but I always wanted the freedom of doing something special, so, I had a long time drawing and I just was thinking how can I make my art more than draws (I didn’t had good references, knowledge or technology for digital works) I thought just paintings is a bad idea, so, I already had tattoos and I had a couple friends who do tattoos, and well that was the beginning of the history
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is juan peña (jupe) and I have almost 8 years tattooing I got in just step by step, studying it, practicing, asking and learning by myself, I realized I had to study a lot cuz I didn’t have to much support by other artists or shop, so I became disciplined with myself cuz I knew I didn’t have too much run for errors,
I started to understand most of the tattoo artists weren’t very kind with their clients and most of them didn’t care about the experience of the client, just thinking in money and I didn’t like that cuz I think every tattoo has a emotional charge and of course an aesthetic result, if you get a good tattoo but a bad experience with your artist you won’t remember that tattoo with love, it’s gonna be just one more
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
People should pay more attention to the effort of every artist and the love in every piece, give more artistic freedom in the designs, and support every project like giveaways or painting sells, even digital art, most of the time even just a share or tag a friend is very helpful for tattoo artists
How did you build your audience on social media?
I always give every clients or followers their time, they deserve someone that wanna know the history behind their tattoos, and thats what I have been doing, asking what they would like, how and answering everything, explaining my process and how they can improve themself, even if it’s just with a tattoo And it’s not just about the professionalism, sometimes it’s about the human being
I know we all have different points of view but talk and share ideas always helps to harmonize
I guess that how I did it
