We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Juan Francisco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Juan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When I realized I had the ability to develop the skill of mediumship, I felt compelled to hone in on it, and share with others that they can do it, too.
A long time ago, I had the idea of writing a book that compiles the spiritual experiences of my family members, whether they were apparitions of deceased loved ones or encounters with the supernatural in haunted places. Once I had my own experience contacting the departed loved one of a friend, this idea came back to me in the form of a podcast, which I would soon call Third Eye Sight.
Part of me thought, “Who would listen to this podcast?” “Will people even care?” And one of the larger questions I had were, “What will my friends, family, and former work colleagues think once I totally convert my public social media platform to an account that focuses on this stuff? They’re going to see my ‘weird side’ of crystals, tarot cards, and talking with the dead.”
I felt so strongly about my own experiences and about how much I want others to experience either the same or something close to it. I felt the risk was worth it. Being unfollowed by people I once worked with? Worth it. Being unfollowed by a relative who disagrees with my philosophies? Worth it. Because I so believe in how beneficial my own spiritual experiences have been, and I both want to encourage others to pursue these experiences and want others to feel inspired to share the stories of the experiences they’ve had.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a spiritual intuitive who practices tarot card reading and mediumship. In addition to my full-time work that’s unrelated to this realm, I offer card readings and mediumship readings. Adjacent to these is my podcast focused on spirituality and the supernatural, Third Eye Sight.
When I had my own experience with mediumship for the first time (as far as I consciously know), I started to feel that folks other than myself must have bizarre/otherworldly experiences, themselves, and that they just don’t talk about them. They’re our coworkers, friends, family….I want to give everyone the chance to talk, whether anonymously or openly, on my podcast, and this inspired me to launch Third Eye Sight. And it also inspired me to get more involved in my passions related to the spirit world, and start offering card readings and then mediumship readings to the public.
To be very honest, nothing truly sets me apart form other intuitive workers in the business of spiritual services, other than the personality I bring to my readings and my podcast. I truly believe all intuitive workers work with the same energy. It’s the intention of each worker that matters, as well as the unique personality they bring to the work. With that in mind, my business isn’t so unique. But what is unique is me, and the fact I bring myself into everything I do, with certain boundaries and elements of respect in place for my sitters. In my podcast, I 100% bring all of myself into each episode.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Instagram is slowly bringing more ears towards the Third Eye Sight podcast, and more eyes towards the readings I offer on my website.
There’s a bit of irony in being a spiritual intuitive worker who’s self-promotional. This is something I’ve struggled to come to terms with. The fact of the matter is, if you want people to use your services, you must promote yourself. There are ways of doing this that are healthy and ethical, and there are other ways that are purely unethical. Unfortunately, the more psychics use social media, the more consumers find certain psychics or people posing as psychics who are going the unethical route of self-promotion.
I believe there is a way to use social media platforms like Instagram to put yourself forward as a spiritual intuitive without taking advantage of people viewing your content.
I absolutely love Instagram more than the other platforms I’m on, because it allows me to reach an audience of like-minded people around my age (30) who have an interest in spirituality and psychic work. I can create content that is visually appealing with a message related to spirituality (or with just me being silly and typing puns for captions). I can go on lives and do readings for folks for free, and mention when a podcast episode will drop and that I offer one-on-one readings on my website if folks feel called to book them.
Whether it’s Instagram or another social media platform, I recommend folks stick to the platform that speaks to their communicative and visual style. Then, you’ll find your tribe and find people who want to see content from someone with your expertise and passion.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My podcast Third Eye Sight seems to help listeners build trust in me, and sometimes, this inspires them to book a one-on-one reading with me.
I stared delving into the realm of spiritual work with my podcast. Offering readings as a service came later. Usually, it’s the other way around! I noticed that some people who listen to my podcast feel like they’re getting to know me and my style of communication. This way, they get an idea of how I portray myself in a one-on-one reading they may book in the future.
