We were lucky to catch up with Juan Borrás recently and have shared our conversation below.
Juan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I only have good things to say about my parents. They are both very fond of all types of music and they even prioritized signing up for guitar or singing classes than any type of sport when I was little and that influenced me a lot when it came to producing and playing. Unfortunately my father passed away in 2019 due to cancer and that made me listen to his collection of CDs and records like crazy for the last 5 years. My father’s favorite group is the Rolling Stones but you can also find people like Jamie XX, Wilco or a country music compilation in his collection. He was a lover of music and his passion infected me from a young age. My mother has always been more into pop and indie and she has also influenced me a lot in the music I produce today. They are both great references for me and there is not a single day that I do not remember them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a boy from a humble family from Vigo, Galicia. I went to study in Madrid when I was 17 years old and there I really started to want to dedicate myself to music. I started playing at a Drum and bass party at the Penelope room when I was 17 years old. I still remember that first moment in front of 200 people and having to make them dance. How scary haha. But I really knew what I wanted was when I saw Marco Carola and Dj Sneak at La Riviera in Madrid… That was the moment I completely fell in love with House music. I started to “produce” my first songs with my PC and Fruitty loops (now I listen to those songs and they make my hair stand on end because of how bad they are and that at the time I thought they were real hits hahaha) Little by little I started playing in more rooms in the capital until he ended up being a resident of Goya Social Club. As for music, I continued locked in my studio and managed to release on labels like Robsoul or Nervous Records.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the greatest satisfaction of being an artist is being able to transmit my state of mind, my joy, my sadness, through music. Although I make music to dance or play in a club, for me it is very important to convey how you feel through music.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The music of the place. I love travel and i listen the music of the country i will go to visit.
