We were lucky to catch up with Juan and Marvin Luna and Paz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Juan and Marvin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I remember on a cold autumn day in 2016 I had returned home from college. I woke up thinking to myself, was their more to life? The questions stemmed from a deep resentment I had developed while at school. The reasons behind these new found feeling were financial in nature. The pursuit for a college education was robbing me of time, money, and direction. As with most 20 somethings, I was searching for my passion and purpose. Coincidentally my peers were undergoing similar changes. Sometime during that time I was home my business partner, Marvin Paz reached out. Marvin had stayed in town while most people left off to college. While in town he began developing and working a game plan. A game plan to ultimately gain, financial independence. The plan revolved around our natural inclination towards the arts; music, fashion, photography, and visual media. To us at the time their was not much of a lead of how to make money off of our content. All we knew is we had to start, so with my college laptop and a free DAW (digital audio workstation) and some photo editing apps we began building Floral Decorum. It had been a long time since we had talked, since graduating high school but we both knew we wanted to create generational wealth and what better way then with the new found power of the internet. Content creation has become a new source for young successful entrepreneurs , it was our turn to win. As first generation immigrants we understood the difference between struggle and comfort, a good enough and a extraordinary life. We chose to live the latter.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Juan and I got fully into our industry after we had a concept, structure and loose game plan of what we wanted to accomplish: make hits, make waves and make a legacy. We figured we would figure out the rest as we went along. We decided to officially pursue our vision circa 2016. We provide a wide and versatile array of products and services ranging first and foremost from what our the founders provide as curators, content creators and creatives. We are true producers with a wide ability to execute a multimedia project. In terms of what our LLC provides; songwriting, song composition, mixing and mastering, vocalist recording, video recording, artist development.
Our clients need creative solutions for their videos, music, and brand recognition. More than anything we bring the power to execute.
Our unique way of thinking, and way or problem solving sets us apart.
We our most proud of being able to do what we love and watch our vision grow, that and our portfolio of works.
The main thing we want our followers to know is that we want to create a better way of thinking, a better way of living. Based on the principles of; mutual respect of our fellow human, ability to express art freely.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Work Is More Important Than Yourself, is a lesson that to this day we are unlearning and its is our belief that the majority of the people around us need to unlearn. It is the commonality in our society to work until you die, or as the adage goes, shop till you drop, rings a sound familiar to our fascination with material things. What instead we should chase it to be producers instead of consumers. Everyone has an interest and inert talent in some subject, topic, or activity, why not show off their way of doing things in whatever it be. No one could draw like Van Gogh, No one could box like Muhammad Ali, and just the same no one can do things that you can. It is our things in common that make us special and our differences make us unique. It is time to start exploring ways to be more independent and create our reality. Make the music you want o hear, the food you want to eat, the things you want to see are up to you to materialize and no amount of money can do that for you. You have to care enough about yourself to educate yourself, learn a craft, and have those conversations and discussion to build the content of your character and to build a vision for your life. You have better chance of being successful being yourself than faking who you aren’t.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To have true purpose, in our opinion you have to have a love for what you do, a reason to jump out of bed, to suffer through, to find a reason to show up on the worst days. We have found the back end work, in other words, the work no one sees is the the driving factor for success in any venture. To chase your dreams you have to center yourself and have a solid next step, in the case of Floral Decorum. The goal is to build a “better way of thinking”, a nuanced approach to find health emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It is our opinion that it is in everyone’s best interest to pursue things that allow them to be creative in whatever medium they want- dancing, singing, athleticism, communication etc. Anything can be art, if the flair, the style, the creativity is there. The only thing that makes one unique is the way that one exist, no one else can emulate who you are better than yourself. The method to pursue a “better way of thinking”, is by building a brand based on respect of each other whether it is on a creative level, business level, all the way down to friendship. We believe respect is crucial for emotional intelligence and finding solutions no matter where you are in life. Curated content creation that centers around multiple arenas such as; fashion, athletics, philanthropy, music, and more, in hopes to build a “wave”, a way of being a way of thinking, that we believe everyone is capable of molding to their individual interests. To build a better future everyone has to be present for the issues at hand so lending our version of positive model based off of our interest and values to us, is the best way to influence our peers and future generations. Growing up we can say the role models lent their vices instead of their virtues and in a way made it “cool” to be menace. The reality is the menace mentality is good for nothing other than breeding violence and ignorance that has so plagued our current day to day. By instead indulging in creativity, self care, and community building we can aim for less suffering and a more entertainment filled lives. Everyone wants a fulfilled life so we want to show our version of how to aim for one or at the very least, give a way to find a better way.
