We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jpoetix Wrld. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jpoetix below.
Jpoetix, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always had a creative passion within me, it followed my every step as a child but I never tapped into it and pursued it.
I remember writing poetry as a teenager, I knew I loved the art and I definitely had a passion to express my emotions in this form, although it was just my hobby and I never considered it to be more than a hobby.
Although, my life drastically altered as a young teenager, the traumas in my life weighed me down so heavily that my dedicated hobby became my new best friend.
During this period I felt isolation to another level, and unfortunately the loved ones I could open up to passed away, in a sense I found myself completely hopeless.
I used my poetry as the way to express my feelings about the world around me to myself, and I even formed within myself a alternative personality that I would talk with to calm down.
My first poem I wrote when I officially decided to live this artist life was called, “DAMAGE MY LOVE” and it was more of a song than anything, this poem was about me being gaslit by my own emotion of love as I saw her as a figure of my imagination.
The lines go:
“Love has found me,
She painted my blood on the streets,
but I still kissed her lips,
As beautiful Love was,
Her darkness choked every breath out of my heart,
Forever I will cry,
LOVE HAS FOUND ME,
LOVE HAS FOUND ME,
Love found me,
These words will I cry as I repeatedly have my heart punched out and shattered on the grounds of hate and despair,” – Jpoetix
Becoming an artist for me wasn’t just a random choice or something I thought I wanted to do.
Becoming an artist for me was the integrative way to not only create a reality I could mentally thrive in, but it was also the vehicle to suppress, destroy, and grow from my childhood traumas.
I believe that artists should have such a origin story that not only reflects in their art, but also ensures the purpose behind why they create art in the first place.
My sole purpose with my artwork (whether it’s book writing, podcasting, poetry, or music) is to create a alternative reality for people to experience a movie of their life,
and by infusing my story so deeply within my art I strive to help people understand what their story not only means but how they can use it to make a difference in the communities around them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My story begins with an anomaly, and as most people would say I am a medical miracle.
The trails I had to to overcome in the mist of this fact truly devolved me as the artist I am today.
Being this, “Medical Miracle” sounds amazing until you realize that you’re the only person out of 200,000 people who share your unique traits, or at least this was the statistic of my birth.
Growing up being the only person with my differences isolated me so heavily that i saw everyone else as entities I couldn’t relate with.
Living within a Christian household as a child I found this to be true, I was more accepted by kids who did not grow up in the faith as opposed to children who grew up in the faith.
This grew a twisted desire within me to seek validation from my peers in order to reassure myself that I still was a capable human being in society.
This launched myself into the deepest depression of my life lasting from age 15 to age 18, I’ve threatened my own livelihood about four times within this period and I’ve distanced myself from human interaction to a minimum of what was necessary for me to be present in reality.
As a Christian Artist today, this portion of my story is extremely important because my sole purpose (through book writing, podcasting, poetry, and music,) is to help people understand who they are, and who God has made them to be.
This is why in 2022 I became the Founder of, “THE JXW”, (a shorthand of my artist name Jpoet-X Wrld)
THE JXW is a developing media company that encourages our youth to:
1. Pursue God,
2. Seek Freedom,
3. Acknowledge their God given gifts,
Our podcast division has show called, “THE JXW” in which having the sole purpose to break mental barriers, deconstruct reoccurring toxic behaviors, and to create a hour long space for spiritual & mental healing to occur within our audience.
Because through my artistry, a goal of mine is to overextend myself emotionally and spiritually so that I can break down the issues attacking the community around me.
That being said, my entire brand is a direct representation to what I was afraid to accomplish, but who would’ve thought a kid from Baltimore would achieve not only this goalpost but to help others achieve it as well and to go farther.
Also to what I am most proud of? Nothing… Because why would I take pride in leading someone else to freedom, and why would I boast about something God has worked through me.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My greatest advice to anyone who’s looking to be a creative is this:
“your product needs to be aligned with your purpose statement, but change needs to be the ultimate goal.” – Jpoetix
And here’s why, through my artistic journey i have benefited greatly from the times that life has given me a pivotal opportunity,
But! even through that pivotal moment my art never changed nor did my purpose behind it had a shifting.
For example:
Our podcasting division started a show with the original title of, “JXWPODCAST”,
Now this show had a less than stellar logo with a very similarly reflective host energy and flair, but it was the first initiative on our media platform so we ran with it.
Now some of our viewers said it was amazing! Perfect, wonderful and wouldn’t change a thing, although then our core supporters saw that the way we were continuing to produce would actually hurt our business in the long run.
So in this pivotal moment I made a split decision!
I Created a whole new logo, updated the title, and incorporated a higher energy factor within episodes to increase audience retention time, and ever since then the podcast has been growing even greater than what it was before.
So as you are in the pivotal moment remember this:
“your product needs to be aligned with your purpose statement, but change needs to be the ultimate goal.” – Jpoetix
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A resource that heavily influenced my ideology of not only an artist within the mental health space, but in general as a human being were lectures by Professor Jordan B. Peterson.
As a kid I was critically drawn to his personality series, & and the deeper psychological world within what we call a brain.
I found myself at 15 years old binge watching hours and hours of this information that I couldn’t even imagine to begin to understand,
but in some odd way I found it to be not only entertaining but worth watching.
Even though I wasn’t old enough to understand the concepts of all that he was explaining,
that did not mean that i wasn’t old enough to retain it. The wisdom I’ve gained from that man truly shifted my perspective of life and I never once attended one lecture, much less completed any of his courses.
Here’s some advice to creatives & just generally people who want to find their way in life,
What you fill your brain with will determine the scope of your future.
It truly doesn’t matter what your dreams and aspirations are, if you do not have a constant flow of positive thoughts, intriguing information, and ideas to create, then most likely your dream will be just that… a dream…
You have to always surround yourself with people and information that will propel you towards success, and if that means sacrificing your favorite TV show to learn more about your gifting, hey! It’s worth it.
