We were lucky to catch up with JoyLetta Chā recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, JoyLetta Chā thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
There are so many people I feel have influenced my life. But I am going to go with the oldest cliché in the book which is my dad. Most people don’t know that I have two of them. My biological father and my Step-Dad which is who I would call my hero. Daddy’s little girl is the story here. I was talking to my dad the other day and was telling him how thankful I am for the household I grew up in. And the memories I have when I was a child. I believe the impression dads make on their little girls is either a good one or a bad one. This was a story of the good.
The lessons I have learned from him are ones of courage, boldness, and following God. He displayed these attributes and those still have an impression on me today. He was a teacher by calling and that is what he showed me all the time. He always tells me that I used to sit my dolls and stuff animals up and teach them. Maybe I was just doing what I saw him do. I always go back to the faith my dad had. Through the courage and the boldness, Faith is what shined. His knowledge even to this day still astounds me.
This has influenced my journey in ways I am still learning about. But I will say that it has influenced my faith and my boldness, and every day I am thankful for the life that I had when I was young. There is a passage in the bible that says Train a child up in the way they should go and they will not depart from it. That sums up the influence my dad has had on my journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Have you ever had to pivot?
I would say right now in my life, yes. I’m pivoting from doing everything in branding and marketing, to creating a simple service menu. As a creative and a business owner I have over the years learned a lot of things and became proficient in them. I think that it’s a good pivot. This will hopefully enable me to focus on a few of my top strengths. Being able to provide consulting for clients that need help in their businesses gives me joy.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
So there was a time in my first business when I did a popup photo booth. This was while I was living in AZ and wanted to bring awareness to my business. I created a relationship with the owner of a T-shirt shop downtown Tempe. So I called him up one day and asked “Hey can I do a pop-up in front of your store?”. He agreed. I also had a friend at that time, she wanted to be a DJ. So I invited her out to Dj. With out all the details, I started taking pictures of people right off the street. I had my computer. I figured out how to tether to it from the camera. Had a friend man the station while I took the photos. Everyone that had a picture taken was emailed the picture right after it had been taken. The coolest thing was, it was Iron Man weekend and so many people where out. Many of them said if they had known they would’ve taken a picture. I can’t remember if I charged. Hmm, I don’t think I did. My whole goal was to get my name out there and for people to book appointments. If I were to do that again, I would change a few things, but keep the basics of the “event”. It was so much fun. I love even marketing. But not what they call event marketing today!
