We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joyette Master a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joyette, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
At Savvy Design Tech, we diverge from industry standards by focusing on mentorship and building personal connections with our clients, especially non-designers and stay-at-home moms, particularly those raising special needs children. Our approach is unique because we don’t just deliver design services; we also equip our clients with the skills and confidence to build their own brands.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, we provide personalized guidance, incorporating biblical principles to empower entrepreneurs in every aspect of their business. We understand the importance of flexibility, especially for moms balancing family responsibilities, which is why we offer bi-weekly blitz calls and mentorship programs that are accessible and geared toward individual growth.
One story that illustrates how this makes a difference is a mompreneur we worked with who, after struggling to manage her brand and family obligations, found renewed confidence and direction through our mentorship program. Not only did she learn how to enhance her visual branding, but she also discovered new ways to manage her time and create balance through our faith-driven approach. This empowerment goes beyond just design—it’s about helping women thrive both in business and life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m the founder of Savvy Design Tech, a business built around empowering non-designers and entrepreneurs—especially stay-at-home moms and those caring for special needs children. My journey into this industry began with a passion for creative design and a desire to help women like me find financial freedom and time to care for their families. With a background in graphic and website design, I realized that many women in similar situations needed more than just technical services—they needed mentorship, community, and a flexible business model that works for them.
Savvy Design Tech offers a range of services, including custom branding, website design, social media content creation, and mentorship programs that teach clients how to build and scale their own businesses. What sets us apart is the personalized approach we take with every client. We don’t just design logos or create graphics; we guide our clients through every step of the process, helping them develop the confidence and skills to run their own brands successfully.
One of the key problems we solve is helping entrepreneurs overcome the intimidation of creating a strong online presence. Many of our clients feel overwhelmed by design, technology, or social media, and we provide step-by-step guidance, teaching them how to become savvy business owners while offering done-for-you services when needed.
What I’m most proud of is seeing the transformation in our clients. Watching someone go from feeling unsure about their business to launching a fully branded, professional product or service is incredibly rewarding. We’re not just building brands; we’re building up the people behind them.
The main thing I want potential clients and followers to know about Savvy Design Tech is that we’re here to make your vision come to life in a way that fits your lifestyle. We incorporate biblical principles and focus on personal growth and mindset just as much as we do on business strategy. It’s about creating a holistic approach that ensures you’re thriving in both business and life. Whether you’re looking for design services or need mentorship to take your business to the next level, we’re committed to helping you succeed.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies for growing my clientele has been focusing on building strong, genuine relationships with my audience through consistent engagement and valuable content. By establishing Savvy Design Tech as a brand that not only provides top-tier design and branding services but also offers mentorship and business growth guidance, I’ve been able to create a supportive community around our mission.
A key element of our strategy has been leveraging social media to offer free value to entrepreneurs. Our Savvy-preneurs Network, a free Facebook community, has become a hub for like-minded entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another. This community has allowed me to build trust with potential clients by providing free tips, resources, and encouragement to help them along their entrepreneurial journeys.
Additionally, our weekly Blitz Zoom Calls provide focused accountability sessions, where members of the community can brainstorm, ask questions, and receive real-time feedback on their projects and marketing efforts. By offering these resources, I’ve not only grown my client base but also helped many women entrepreneurs gain the confidence and skills to take their businesses to the next level. This combination of community support and consistent value has been instrumental in expanding our reach and impact.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
At Savvy Design Tech, we currently sell directly through our own website. We made this choice because it allows us to have full control over our customer experience, branding, and pricing strategy. By selling on our own site, we can create a more personalized and seamless interaction with our clients, from browsing products to final checkout. This flexibility is key in how we communicate our brand’s story and offerings, especially for custom design services, mentorship programs, and digital products.
Pros of Selling on Our Own Site:
Branding Control: We have complete control over the look and feel of the site, aligning it perfectly with our brand’s message and tone.
Customer Relationships: Direct communication with our customers helps us build lasting relationships and provide better customer support.
No Platform Fees: While we do cover hosting costs, we avoid transaction fees charged by platforms like Amazon or Etsy, which helps maximize our profit margins.
Custom Experience: We can tailor the shopping experience, offer personalized products, or promote special packages more easily on our site.
Cons of Selling on Our Own Site:
Traffic Building: One downside is that it requires more effort to drive traffic to our site compared to using a marketplace like Amazon, which has a built-in audience.
Marketing Responsibility: We rely heavily on our own marketing efforts—social media, SEO—to attract customers. This requires consistent effort and resources.
Technical Management: Maintaining the website and ensuring it runs smoothly can be time-consuming, especially with handling security and site updates.
Platforms like Amazon or Etsy are fantastic for instant visibility and exposure, but for us, the trade-off is worth it to have that direct relationship with our customers and more control over our brand’s identity.
