We recently connected with Joyce Laszloffy Founder & Creator of The i Kicked Sugar Course and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joyce Laszloffy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I would challenge that there isn’t one defining moment that can change the trajectory of one’s career or business but rather a bunch of small moments laced together.
People always ask me how long it took me to write my Course? On the surface, the answer would be three months from start to finish, but if you were to see below the surface, you would see an idea germinating as far back as February 2005.
I have Journal entries where I wrote chapters and ideas for titles about writing a book on how bad sugar is for you going back 14 years. So, it might look like from the surface; I’m a Rock Star who came up with an idea and acted on it immediately and wrote, edited, stylized and formatted my Course in 3 months. But that’s not the reality. My dream, desire, and need to do this was mulling around in my subconscious and conscious mind for over 14 years.
In January 2018, I bought the domain name I Kicked Sugar™, and I just sat on it for a year while I ran my previous business, The Stylish Table, which was an event/party planning business. I contemplated for almost a year whether this seed would ever take root. I finally pushed that pot out of the shade into the sun. In my first year, I sold just 89 courses because I did not understand the key to marketing. To now, having sold over 12,000 courses.
The completion of my Course, like most things in life, takes time, and what we think may be a defining moment is an accumulation of small moments laced together. Things are a process. On average, it takes a person seven times to see the same message before taking action. Hmm, I think in my case, maybe even longer.
Sometimes it can seem like nothing is happening in your business. But I promise you things are brewing, always brewing beneath the surface. For example, the Bamboo plant has to be watered and fertilized in the ground where it has been planted for five years before it breaks through the dirt; once it does, it grows 90 feet tall in five weeks.
The key is AWARENESS, patience, nurturing, and persistence. What usually appears like a split-second life-changing moment took some time to grow. Like birth, your business can change instantly, but we all know that life takes nine months and, for some, the journey so much longer to even get to the point of saying, “I’m pregnant.”
My point, things really can be so near when they seem so far. And when something “just happens,” that’s an illusion. All things take time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Over seven years ago, I Kicked Sugar! No expensive meals or vitamins, no crazy workouts or diets. I dug deep…and got to the root of my sugar cravings and food addiction.
Something no one ever talks about when they’re trying to sell you the latest program, detox plan, or get you to join their next 30-day challenge. I didn’t use willpower or restrict myself; that NEVER works and only makes cravings stronger. Instead, I learned the science and psychology of why we eat and crave sugar, the circumstances and emotions that keep us eating, and finally, the way out. I went from a life-long sugar addict to NEVER crave the sweet stuff again. Soon after I kicked sugar, I realized I wasn’t alone. So many other women suffer from sugar and food addiction and need and want help. This sent me on a mission to create The I Kicked Sugar course, where I lay out the same revelations and the exact same steps I used to kick sugar over seven years ago … and soon, word got out. I became a regular on TV and was called an expert. The press is nice, but most importantly… I’ve helped so many beautiful souls kick sugar and find food freedom once and for all while giving them an entirely new outlook on life.
Hearing from happy, healthy customers is the best part of my day.
Most “programs” sell pixie dust, unicorns, and fairy tales….promoting “something magical” – while delivering empty promises. So how am I different from all the others out there? First, I’m a real person who’s struggled and understands the pain and torment that food can cause. But most importantly… I teach women step by step why they crave sugar. Trust me; it’s never about the sugar. It’s deeper than that.
My course addresses not only the physiology but, more importantly, the psychology of why we eat and crave sugar. That’s the difference.
That’s where the magic lies. Over 12,000 women globally have joined I kicked sugar to reclaim their health and happiness.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The most challenging lesson I have had to unlearn is not to focus on the tiny details but rather on the big picture.
My focus currently is scaling the business; in doing so, I must ask myself daily before starting a new task, “will this help the company bring in immediate revenue?”
Suppose I don’t bring awareness to this question. In that case, I can find myself like I have so many times before, spending my day doing lots of “busy work,” like spending an hour obsessing over tiny details on some graphics for an email that isn’t what’s going to help push my business to the next level.
It’s very easy as an entrepreneur to want to focus on the tasks that we’re best at, which come easiest to us, but I have learned that it’s usually the hardest and most challenging task that will propel a business forward.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Understanding Marketing. And let me say I am only just beginning to learn this complex and ever-changing field; I am far from getting it, but what I get is it’s the number one thing to focus on and learn. Without it, you have no business.
I’ve learned the hard way that it doesn’t matter how pretty your website looks or how amazing your product or service is if you don’t understand marketing.
If no one visits your website because you don’t know how to get traffic to it, no one will find you, and you won’t have a business. I like to use the metaphor of having a great storefront on the side of a dirt road in the middle of the desert with no cars driving by. Brick and mortar stores always talk about the success of a business being dependent on location, location, location, and, to be more specific, traffic and eyeballs.
The key to success is to understand how to get traffic and turn that traffic into a customer at a profitable CPA.
