We were lucky to catch up with Joyce Gerber recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joyce, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My defining moment was when my new friend Johnny brought me to my first health food restaurant . I loved everything about it…the food, the books and magazines, recounting how people’s lives were saved by changing their diets, the people shopping and eating there, and the reverence for nature I felt infused in the place. From that moment on, I was passionate, driven, and motivated by the profound connection that Nature had to health. I didn’t realize at the time that it would become my life’s work; that it would become my profession, but it did!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After that fateful day, when Johnny took me to that natural foods restaurant, I took one step after another, from my first step of attending massage therapy school, and getting my license, to learning how to use purified water internally to cleanse and heal the body with colon hydrotherapy, to studying how to use food as medicine; to nourish and detoxify, along with herbs, I studied with some of the great masters who were teaching at that time, and got my certifications and accreditations from them. Over the last three years, during the lockdowns, I was introduced to another natural wonder; the power of red light therapy, and I use it a great deal in my work.
Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is very powerful in its effect on the body, because it stimulates and regenerates the mitochondria in our cells, which are the “energy factories”. When the cells function more efficiently, the level of our health increases exponentially! We are seeing extraordinary results and transformations in our patients. This runs the gamut, from fat and cellulite loss, to incredible face and skin rejuvenation, to the elimination of pain, inflammation, fatigue, depression, and all kinds of chronic conditions, some which have lasted 20 or 30 years or more! We have often heard the words, “Thank you for giving me back my life again!”
I am a health & nutritional consultant, coach, clinician, practitioner, educator, speaker, and author, using functional medicine and naturopathy in my practice. I am certified in nutrition, colon hydrotherapy, iridology, herbology, shiatsu, reflexology, and neuro linguistic programming, and licensed in massage therapy. I assist people in creating and maintaining optimal health, and help them reverse dis-ease. I specialize in cleansing & detoxification, weight loss, anti-aging, gut health, nutritional replenishment, red light therapy, and energy & performance. I am committed to offering people alternatives to drugs and surgery, and to teaching them how to eat well, live well, and be well. My unique approach makes health simple, fun, and delicious. The combination of my expertise, knowledge, and 41 years of experience in private practice helps you to enjoy a daily healthy lifestyle that is user-friendly, manageable, and sustainable.
What makes me unique is that I am not just sharing information with people; I focus on helping people IMPLEMENT the information! Not only do I want to help people reverse disease, I want to teach them how to create and live a healthy lifestyle EVERY DAY, for the rest of their lives!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Passion, and remembering why you chose that field to begin with. Over and over again, in the course of my career, I have experienced the feeling of wanting to climb to the highest mountain top, and shout the truth about health to people…that we are in control of our own health, to a very large degree, through our food and our lifestyle choices. Accepting that responsibility, and learning about our bodies, totally empowers us to OWN OUR HEALTH!
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I absolutely would have chosen the same profession! Perhaps I might have done it a bit differently, but it would all be about health and well-being, and getting healthy naturally. The only other contender might have been my becoming professional with singing, music, and poetry and songwriting. I discovered my love for creative expression after I discovered my love for health. I love writing songs and poetry, and my writings are usually expressing truth and inspiration about who we are. I am not saying that I have closed the door to these. I’m simply saying that they have been in the back wings, while my work in health has been in the foreground. However, I have some songs and poetry about health and healthy eating, so…you never know…I might wind up having a whole new way of sharing health with people in the future!
