Captivating photos can garner a brand a lot of attention. Stephanie the creative director, Remarkable as the model created a viral moment in a photo for a hat brand Saint Fort. This viral moment got us on Beyonce’s website and attracted more opportunities with celebrities and sales from capturing a great photo.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Joyanne Panton. Photography always sparked my interest from the first day I took professional photos of myself at 9. I got my first digital camera at 12 and at that moment I decided my photos will be global. As a photographer, I capture stories and memories for people and brands. I help my clients create brand presence and garner sales with captivating images. My images are natural and textured keeping the true essence of the people I capture. I also wanted to bring more attention to natural unambiguous women of color since the representation was low when I started. I am proud to have been featured in Forbes, NYC Billboard, Essence, Haper Bazaar, and more.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started photography there weren’t many women photographers that were also African in the industry. Many agencies didn’t have confidence to work with me and labeled my work to commercial short for too black. I found my own talent and kept pushing forward.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn to always be a student and service. Always serve your clients with love and care. Always come to give and not overlook to receive. I also had to learn to never stop learning. The moment you stop learning you start to get pushed behind.
