We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joy Strempack a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

I first knew I wanted to an artist in the creative field when I was small child. I have always been passionate about painting, singing, dancing, writing, playing piano, calligraphy. Later on in life, I became a graphic designer with my own marketing company and also a creative director for multiple brands. I am also a teacher, an established painter/calligrapher, and a recording artist. About 14 months ago, my love of music has me started a DJ career.

Joy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

As an artist, I recorded my original tracks under Sol Inspire Records 2022. My sounds are a mixture of melodic deep house, progressive house, and indie dance vocal. I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan with a background of singing, dancing, painting, calligraphy art, piano playing, and literature. Music has been the biggest passion of my life. In the last 14 months, i have DJ in 14 locations in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New Orleans, Mexico with more than 85 DJ sets. I love to create vibrant vibes and high energy through my music selection and dancing. My specialty is in curating different sounds for diverse audience, such as deep house lounge vibes, club EDM, 80’s +90’s dance groove., retro disco. I am currently the resident DJ for Sparrow Rooftop at Dalmar hotel on Saturdays, Lobster Bar on Las Olas on Fridays, and McSorley’s Rooftop Lounge and Bar on Fort Lauderdale Beach. I am also a regular international DJ for W Hotel Mexico city, and W Taipei.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

As an artist and a business owner, my personal mission is to give back to my community of Fort Lauderdale and bring people together. Inclusion and sustainability are two main focuses of my daily effort. I am the creative director of my company “Go green eco bins”. Our eco friendly solar powered recycling bins have provided City of Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, North Miami free public recycling. I constantly raise awareness about reducing micro plastic to go into our eco system in our community, especially our beautiful beaches.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is to spread happiness, love, creativity and diversity. I feel like I have a voice to emphasize on kindness for one another and kindness to our environment. I am also a big advocate for our pride community in our city. I am playing for the pride weekend at W Hotel in Mexico City on the weekend of June 23.
