We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joy Rossignol a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My husband and I started a relationship coaching business called Connected and Committed. Our heart is to help people who are experiencing intense anxiety about their relationships, find peace within themselves and feel confident to take the next steps in their dating relationship (whether that is to stay and commit or to leave). There are so many conflicting messages that society shares that we feel bring way more confusion and fear within the dating process. This business and mission is extremely important to us because my husband and I almost broke up when we were dating due to all of the anxiety and torment we were experiencing in our own minds. Our anxiety was yelling so many questions (what if there is someone better for me? What if this isn’t who God has for me? What if my boyfriend can find someone more compatible for him? What if I am not enough, etc.) that it felt unbearable to handle. However, we made it through and gained the understanding as to where our anxiety was coming from and finally found peace. It is our mission to help as many couples as possible to not have to go through the same type of struggles we experienced while dating.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am licensed in marriage and family therapy, and have been working in this field for about four years. I have always been obsessed with relationships, and wanted to create a way to help more people. After a reel when viral, my husband and I started focusing our social media to specifically give people tools on how to help manage their intense anxiety regarding their relationships. Something we have realized from our audience, is that there isn’t a lot of people talking about relationship anxiety. Most people aren’t telling people that it’s okay to stay in a relationship, even if there is anxiety. Anxiety doesn’t mean the relationship is bad, and that you should leave. It may be an indicator that there is more going on with yourself that we need to sort through. Currently, we offer both 1:1 & couples coaching, as well as group coaching programs for our clients. And we are currently working on an online course helping people with their relationship anxiety.
We are so thankful for the amount of clients we have been able to help and are continuing to help with our social media, podcast, and coaching programs, and excited for what is coming in the future.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This may sound silly, but growing my audience on social media started as an accident. I had just finished a session with a young married couple I had been working with for awhile. During the therapy session, I asked them four questions that I felt would be helpful in increasing their connection. The questions seemed to bring a lot of smiles, laughter, and really felt like it bonded them closer together. So I decided to use those questions to create a reel. I asked my husband to be in the video with me, so I could have some content with the both of us together. We created the reel (after we had gotten into an argument lol), and I posted it the next morning. The reel took off immediately, and by the end of the week had over 700 likes and shares. And during the next few weeks, it had over 2 million views, hundreds of thousands of likes, and we gained over TEN THOUSAND FOLLOWERS! Since then, we have continued to grow, and create specific content that really speaks to our ideal audience, and the content really seemed to resonate with people.
My advice is to make sure you create content that really speaks to your heart, and the people you are trying to reach. Be consistent, and active on your page (stories, responding to comments and DMS, etc.) since this creates an active following rather than just a stagnant one. And be patient, it takes time to really grow an audience that buys and reacts to the things you put out there.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I would say just being us. We don’t hide that we are Christians, we never strive to show that we are perfect, and we continue to be authentic in everything we do and post. People are constantly messaging us saying that they can feel our genuineness through our post, and in the content we share. Also, we weren’t afraid to share things that other people were not talking about. Especially, if it is something you experienced in your own life. We speak from experiences and from expertise, and we are thankful that it seems to align with the people we are speaking to.
