Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joy Nyree. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents always stressed the importance of paying attention and I see the impact that this has made on my life. Both of my parents were professional athletes who were very disciplined.
There attention to details allowed them to excel in their fiels and they have passed that gift on to me. My attention to detail has become one of my super power and is very necessary especially in the field I’m in.
As a hairstylist you have to pay close attention to detail in order to execute the desired color or style effectively. It is also equally important to pay attention to the client and there emotional needs as well. Everyone has a story and they bring it with them so it is important to “pay attention” to those details as well which allows me to adjust myself for each clients specific needs.
Joy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Joy Nyree. I was pretty much born into this industry it’s in my genes. My maternal grandmother was a hairstylist and my maternal grandfather was a barber and a beautician. Growing up in Phoenix and being exposed to so many different cultures, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to work with different hair textures. I moved to Atlanta in 2001.
I remembered being terrified because Atlanta is one of the hair capitals of the world. This in and of itself was very intimidating. I had to ask myself what sets me a part and what can I bring that’s different? Having the ability to work with and master different hairstyles definitely opened the door for me, it allowed me lots of options in terms of where I wanted to work.
The first salon I worked at specialized in using non- toxic hair color and products. I’ve always loved to learn new things and was happy to have a job…lol! Little did I know that God was building a brand for me and 12 years later I left there with a wealth of knowledge in my knapsack and opened No More Hats Hair Salon.
I am a Master.Colorist and Textureologist. I use non- toxic haircolor and products, and have mastered working with all hairtypes. I believe in using products with ingredients that are safe for the hair and body. I am constantly educating myself on different products, conditioning and styling methods for specific hair types and textures.
