We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joy Maxwell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joy below.
Joy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
Eight years ago, I started my business from a very hurtful and frustrating place. I had not put any thought into being a business owner. I just knew that working in my classroom and teaching at night at our local college wasn’t cutting it. I was overwhelmed, underpaid, and overworked I needed a change and I need it to change quickly.
So I did what most entrepreneurs do, I jumped off of a plane and built a parachute on my way down. I would not recommend this model because it is accompanied by tons of trial and error.
Now I realize that you can pay an expert there already is where you are trying to go, and that gives you the opportunity to jump the line of success

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I initially started my business, I knew that I was giving it my all. I cleared my $401(k) from my teaching position and put it all into my childcare. I was also able to get some Capital from my husband who was doing Wholesale and Real Estate. With both of the money put together, we were able to build our empire.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When it comes to managing a team, I suggest they have open communication and clearly defined rules. Be established in the very beginning so that everyone is on the same page.
When it comes to morale when you consistently check in with your stance and make sure that everybody is OK and let their opinions be voiced and hurt and valued. It makes a world of difference.
