We were lucky to catch up with Joy Lyle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joy, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I aspire to create a legacy defined by meaningful connections not just with family and people I love but also with the community I serve. I want my kids, relatives kids, or even my friends and peers to see my commitment to continuous growth and join me on the journey. I want to leave behind a legacy that inspires others to strive for their highest potential at any age, no matter tthe circumstances, to never give up no matter what.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got in the real estate industry 2 and 1/2 years ago. I actually was on clubhouse during that COVID-19 pandemic talking about plans and how to improve and decided the time was right to purchase my online real estate course. I’ve wanted to join this industry since 2009 but I was divorce with small children and my aunt advised against it. So between then I now, I started in the healthcare industry and just focused on my education and my children. Now that everyone is getting older, it’s the perfect time to get back to my dreams. I never want to a person that sits back with “could’ve , should’ve, would’ve” stories or resentment because I never tried something that I really wanted to do.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’m a black female and because of this my own dad who very much wants the best for told, planted negative seeds like, your black people are more likely to choose a white agent and guess what. It happened. I tried to do an open house for a listing agent once and the owner didn’t want me to host because I was black. I was heartbroken. I talked to leadership at my brokerage then and they supported me one-hundred percent. About 6 months later, I was fired as a listing agent within 2 weeks and the sellers said, they wanted to hire a white agent. I was faced with the same disappointment again. With that being said, I never gave up. I cut my dad short and conversation and I’ve remained optimistic believing, what’s for me is for me. I will attract the right clientele, connections, and experiences. I refused to give up based on naysayers and two nos because guess what?? eventually the “yeses came.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
So right now I’m blessed to with my mentor. She’s taught me so much and helped me a lot on my journey. We knew of each other but never really had conversations until I got my license and she invited me to an open house. We discovered that we were born at the same hospital, two days apart. We may have actually been in the nursery at the same time. That was really cool.
