We recently connected with Joy Holdmeier and have shared our conversation below.
Joy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
Motherhood can be overwhelming and we often lose ourselves selflessly giving to our children and families. You are the most important person in your child’s life and just like you take care of them, you need to take care of you! What would your family do without you? You cannot give to them or be your best if you do not feel well. Our motto at Go Fit Mom is “If you love your children, take care of their mother”. It’s true. If you feel good, you will be a better mom. Being healthy doesn’t mean being a certain size. It is self care! It’s healthy routines, managing stress, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and more. Small daily actions can add up to major results. We work with moms to help them find healthy routines they can actually stick to. You can work one-on-one or in our group challenges to connect with other moms with the same goals. Our community support is so rewarding.

Joy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 20 years! I’ve worked with women and mother’s for the majority of those years and going through all the stages of motherhood myself I fully understand the busy lives of moms. I’ve done so much over the years… fitness instruction, personal training, marathons and marathon training, nutrition coaching, bootcamps, management and more. I coach moms at every stage and meet them where they are. I love seeing the success of a mom who thinks she doesn’t have time and can’t get back to being fit find her passion for health and fitness and it doesn’t mean spending hours in the gym every day! I’ve worked with some of my “fit moms” for over 10 years. They’ve adopted a true healthy lifestyle. Your lifestyle doesn’t change overnight, but together we can put together a plan for meeting your goals and creating the life you want. Every mother deserves to be happy and healthy and I love proving her potential to her and being part of her transformation!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Fitness and nutrition is ever changing. It can be overwhelming! No wonder the general population is so confused on how to eat or exercise. So much marketing is thrown in our faces on the daily! I have found my personal health success by thinking simple and being realistic. I don’t follow diets or strict programs and I don’t expect my clients to either. Life is short and I want to LIVE! I want my clients to experience life, not be restricted by rules and off limits foods or be tied to certain workouts. Everyone is different and everyone wants and needs different nutrition and exercise routines. I have found a simplistic approach that I think clients find so refreshing and easy to live by. They often ask, “Really? But that sounds so simple?” It really can be if we stop listening to everyone and everything.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve always been a self-improvement junkie, but it was always health and fitness related. Discovering true self-development and mindset work was a game changer. I started listening to podcasts and audio books about 6 years ago and they have really inspired me in my business and in my coaching practice to encourage others to discover the power of positive thinking and mindset. Some of my favorite books: Year of Yes, You are a Badass, Fear is Not the Boss of You, Best Self, Atomic Habits, The Slight Edge. Favorite Podcasts: Earn Your Happy, The School of Greatness, 7 Good Minutes, The Mindset Mentor, Goal Digger.
