We were lucky to catch up with Joy Bosley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Joy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

Starting out as an aspiring model I learned that nothing comes easy in life. I also learned that if you have a passion for it you must take risks and go after what you love. I have battled through life obstacles and made investments that were risky. I started as a model at the age of 18 and went to auditions, castings and fell into scams that were disappointing at the time. Each disappointing scam led me closer to the real deals that I embarked on later in life. It all started when I risked everything at the age of 18 to drive from Alabama to Miami Florida with nothing more than a few dollars to spare by the time I arrived. The reason I drove to Miami was because of a casting call for Magic City that aired on Starz in 2013. Although I knew that there was a possibility, I wouldn’t be selected it was the ambitious desire to see things for myself. When I arrived, I ended up meeting Bill Marinella the casting director for the talent at the time and after I told him my story of how I drove down there he made sure I was booked for three months. That was one of the greatest achievements of the beginning of my career in entertainment.

I knew from then that life will always be full of taking risks to get to where you want to be. This important lesson that happened at such an early time in my career motivated me to continue taking risks. So, I continued to push myself in to more uncomfortable situations. I am always taking risks to follow my passions which is why I have pushed myself through college, continued modeling and paving a way into the entertainment industry. After seeing so many opportunities come to me through the risks, I have taken I understand that the journey to get to where you need to be is all about taking risks. You can’t get comfortable in your journey to greatness. You must endure the process of growth and change in order to achieve what you need to become successful it all your goals.

Joy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I started out modeling at the age of 18 although I have always loved being in front of a camera, I felt that it was my calling. I decided to make it a career and haven’t looked back since. The biggest thing about modeling is that you must practice your craft, you must do your research before submitting to castings or have an agency who is affiliated with certain casting companies in order to fulfill your career goals safely. Going through different agencies I felt that I wasn’t getting the work I needed to become successful, so I decided that I wanted to be a freelance model. After becoming a freelance model, I have walked in several runway shows, been published in several magazines, and made red carpet appearances. I have so much love and passion for the entertainment industry that I have decided to produce my own fashion shows. I enjoy bringing people together under one roof that all have common interest and goals to become successful in the industry.

The fashion production I have started is called The House of Joy Fashion. The goal is to create a positive environment for all creative people to come together to showcase their talent, network with each other and help support one another in the industry. I have produced three successful showcases in the past year, and I am currently working on producing three more. The next showcase is scheduled for October 14th, 2023, in Los Angeles, California. The next three shows I have partnered with the House of Paragon, BET Mobile dst. and The Designers of Los Angeles to put this amazing show together.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I feel that it’s the drive and ambitious attitude I have that pushes me to not give up. Everyone has their purpose in life, and I feel that helping others is mine. I enjoy being around people who like to create things and have ideas to excel in the industry. It really is a beautiful community of talented people who are like family to me.

When you find like-minded people to collaborate with then anything is possible. The key is to remain consistent, be patient with yourself and find ways to stay focused on your goals. The way I do this is making time to sit down and write in my planner along with time to brainstorm new ideas.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?

I always enjoy promoting others who share the same interests that align with my brand. I usually post and ensure I tag those brands I intend to work with on Instagram. I always ensure that anyone I work with gets full recognition or I don’t post or promote them if I can’t give them the proper credit they deserve.
