We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jowy Webb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jowy below.
Jowy, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Recently, I made a leap of faith as far as my career as a artist. And no im sorry the story doesn’t end good YET there’s still plenty of ups and downs left that i have yet to run into, but i’m excited for what’s in store. I actually learned that risks was something i had to get used to. The whole thought process around taking risks is dreadful, nerve wrecking, and freighting but the high after doing or accomplishing something you never thought could happen makes it 10x better. So, to catch you up to speed i quit my job a couple of months ago, to this day i have people who believed it was a bad decision quitting being a rising bartender in the atlanta midtown area to being a artist waiting for that opportunity to be known for my passion that wakes me up every morning, but that sentence can change depending on how i treat the risk that i make. I could be that artist who waits for that opportunity or i could be that artist who takes their opportunity. With quitting work i envisioned replacing work with passion, but that it self has caused me to rethink my life choices. With passion you start to not treat the day to day things like work but more like fun, which eventually made me lose my discipline. At a job you know what time you have to be to work, you know how many day you are going to work and you know how to execute your job in order to make money. Being a fulltime artist you lose a lot of things because everything is in your control now and you work for yourself, you create opportunities for yourself and that’s the battle for me, that’s my risk i wake up with every morning and YES i have a lot of lazy days but i also have amazing people in my corner that remind me that i’m working for something! So, every morning i try to make any risk i take, one that i am comfortable with and something i made the most out of.
Jowy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jowy Webb, I am a rising artist coming out of Atlanta, Georgia home of many legends. I make music that speaks from the vulnerable side of me, which ranges from struggles i’ve occured during my upbringing or relationships that i wish never ended or even never started. I use music to express my thoughts and i know most people say music is therapeutic but i actually use it to heal myself, through understanding and improving in and out of music. I feel like that quality makes the music i make different from the average sound most artist have. I started making music about 3 years ago, but music has always been apart of my life. As a child growing up i loved the creativeness of music, it truly was art to me. Donbigaveli, being somebody i grew up with during my younger days, we treating music like tv. We ran home after school on days new music was set to released whether it was a new music video or an album, we grew up loving it. Eventually we started to write verses of our own. That love sprouted over the years from a kid who felt like artist like mac miller, childish gambino, j cole all spoke to me about the life i lived as a teenager in high school, to me making music that actually tells my story and learning that people connect with me the same way i connected to my favorites. As far as things that i am most proud of there’s plenty of things actually, such as a music video hitting live television through BET Jams, Meeting with a & r’s in roc nation, and going on a 5 city tour through the south. There are plenty more amazing moments i was blessed with but those are def by far my most proudest moments and i’m definitely very grateful for each and excited for what’s next!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
SHOW UP AND SHOW LOVE! As artists it does so much up for us when we know there’s people out there that support the things we do. Its a nerve wrecking process and a lot of times we tear ourselves down being our biggest critic that we need people who support us to balance us out. So for anybody that you know that’s an artist just give them your support and BE HONEST and will def help in the long run. Lastly, don’t feel pressured or overwhelmed there are plenty things that you can do outside of time and money to help an artist. Such as leaving likes comments and sharing social media post and streaming that person music it goes a long way.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, actually. One of my missions is to change the lives of the people around me. Growing up i’ve always kept this love of wanting to help people. It fuels my passion def being around people you love and you watch how their goals become dreams and their lives become fixated around maintaining. I hate seeing people i believe in lose faith in themselves. So that’s def the first step. And Hopefully one day that love will be limitless and i can change the lives of thousands across the world.
