Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jovi Champ. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jovi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
A valuable lesson I learned at a previous job was the importance of building strong relationships. I’m a big advocate for having open communication to ensure that everyone has a chance to share their opinions, ideas, complaints, questions, and feedback. But whether it’s with a professional colleague, friend, or family member, each relationship you build with another person adds another beam of support to what you’re building for yourself. Thankfully, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some amazing colleagues – some of them have even become my close friends.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My roots are from Northwest Arkansas, but I moved to Houston about 5 years ago to pursue a new career opportunity. As a way to learn more about Houston’s offerings, I became a foodie under the alias @houstonfoodee where I got invited to many restaurant tastings around Greater Houston.
However, I had to retire from this all when the pandemic hit. Afterwards, I launched my Etsy shop, Korea Bae Shop, to sell Kpop merch that I designed myself and then eventually launched my brand on TikTok to create fun, relatable content about Kpop to help promote my shop.
Today, as an Asian American content creator, I produce content around Kpop music/events, K-style fashion, and Korean/BL dramas. I aspire to contribute more awareness and education on Asian pop culture, and I share most of my content through TikTok and Instagram. What excites me most about my work is being able to build fun new connections with my followers over Kpop and getting to work on some cool partnerships.
My proudest moment was being an MC for the South Korean Kpop group, MustB. I had an unforgettable night hosting their Houston show playing interactive games with the members and engaging with their fans. That was the night where I truly felt the overwhelming sensation of gratitude on what I’ve achieved since my humble beginnings.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve built my audience through my appreciation and love for Kpop music. I create TikToks from my own experiences of being a multi-stan of Kpop groups, such as BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, Stray Kids, and many others. It’s amazing how these bands have brought people around the world closer together through online connections. I enjoy sharing with the Kpop community my thoughts, opinions, and gratitude for the music and the content the idols create.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn very gradually was the need to always aim for perfection. I always want to put out the best, but this has deterred me from wanting to share new content and sometimes none at all. Due to my cravings for perfection, I’ve had personal insecurities, experienced a few creative burnouts, made resets to my brand, and started anew. Although as I’ve become more aware of who I am and the value I can bring to my community, I started learning to trust myself more by being more open to imperfections. It’s funny because sometimes the content I put less effort into ends up performing well and goes viral. Also, I realized that progression matters more than perfection, so I ask myself daily how I can improve my craft.
