We were lucky to catch up with Jovaunee Pierre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jovaunee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents are everything I aspire to be as a parent. I was raised by 2 loving parents Michael and Katrina who always encouraged me to follow my dreams. They instilled hard work and integrity into me. My mother is a strong hardworking woman who taught me entrepreneurship at a young age. Everyday when I was in school she would take me to the store in the morning to pick up sprees 4 for a $1 . I would then go to school and sell those sprees for a $1 each. My Father is a retired Chief who served in the US navy. He is the reason why I learned how to make my own music. He bought me my first laptop as well as my first mic. He has also invested a tremendous amount into my music and my business goals. I couldn’t ask for a better set of parents. They’re amazing people. Blessed to know them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I started making music at the age of 15. However I didn’t start taking it seriously until later down the line. Not only am I a recording artist I am a business owner. I created Misunderstood Tribe LLC in 2020. We provide music as well as clothing and accessories. I believe in making quality music as well as quality clothing. I’m most proud of my children and how respectful they are the most important thing in the world to me. Every thing I do is for them.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele is target marketing. You have to know who you’re talking to. I use ads to target the audience I know that I am trying to reach. Also providing quality products for them is a must.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I use Shopify for my online clothing store here at www.misunderstoodarrogance.com and I also have my own website where my music can be purchased here at www.misunderstoodtribe.com. I enjoy using Shopify because it’s simple to use. There are lot of connections made through them as well.
