We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jovan Scott-Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jovan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am extremely pleased with my decision to become a business owner. The opportunity to pick my own hours and settle on choices for my organization is liberating. Obviously, there are times when the burdens of possessing a business can be detrimental, so I contemplate what having a normal job would be like. But at the end of the day, I know that the excitement of entrepreneurship is worth more than working a regular 9-to-5 job. The last time I had contemplated a 9-5 was during an especially bustling week where I was shuffling numerous ventures and battling to stay aware of everything. In spite of the pressure, I realized that there becomes a time where delegating and formulating a team is necessary, thus the expansion of my business ventures.
Jovan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was brought up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Raised by a single parent, It didn’t take me long to comprehend that life is about accomplishments, that must be build with enthusiasm, assurance, and difficult work. My mom helped me to never abandon my dreams and imparted in me a deep yearning to succeed. She moved me to Atlanta, Georgia during my teen years I soon entered the business world with my first business, Mal’s Steaks, in Conyers, Georgia in 2018. With my mother and nanas’ motivation, I made Mals Steak a triumph establishment and utilized the proceeds to launch my first Airbnb.
I began with two lofts in midtown Atlanta and before long transformed the interest into a $250K profitable yearly business . I was then able to buy my first house in Philly, resold it, and made my first $50K. From there, I started flipping houses with the money I made, and I eventually turned my part-time company into a business I now call J2XA Management. My company started in 2020 and made more than $2.7 million in two years.
Enthusiastic about offering my story and achievement, privileged and insight to the world, I composed a book in 2021, called “The Airbnb Survival Guide.” This book contained all my business strategies for others in how to begin an Airbnb and transform it into a profitable business. The book was positioned #1 on Amazon’s new Releases.
Care With Experience which we was established in 2021 by myself and my mother. The organization currently is one of the top main medical services suppliers in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the following ten counties: Clayton, Gwinnett, Fulton, DeKalb, Rockdale-Henry, Forsyth, Cobb, Walton, and Douglas. We operate 24/7, along with providing all of our services from the comfort of our patients’ homes. The primary objective of Care with Experience is to provide patients and their families with individualized, high-quality care that brings our community smiles.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
As the owner of Care with Experience, actively engaging with the community and establishing relationships with families has been the most effective strategy for expanding our clientele. Also, hiring associations with clinical experts through meetings has been gainful.
Another element adding to our development of J2XA management , a real estate company, our best procedure for developing our customer base is by searching out charge lien properties and restoring numerous properties in different communities. This draws the consideration of neighboring occupants who become intrigued by our company for their own land needs. Therefore, they get in touch with us for future business.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
At the point when I initially began utilizing Airbnb, I was simply beginning to get away from Mal’s Steak. Rapidly I learned about Airbnb’s guidelines and got a call from the property the executives organization that was supervising the property I was renting and advised me to close it down. When I received a call informing me that I needed to be in the leasing office within 24 hours, I had just relocated back to Maryland to live with my mother. At the point when I traveled to Georgia, I met with the supervisor who made sense of that my unit couldn’t be rented. Fortunately, I arranged for this and set up a presentation making sense of my obligations, I was then able to get a permit to operate, and so on. At the point when I understood that the administrator was a similar lady who visited my restaurant daily. She then acknowledged how I could run and deal with a storefront. I then had the ability to manage a 500sqft unit. She took a chance on me, added my company in the lease, and she let me keep running Airbnb.
