We were lucky to catch up with Jovan Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jovan, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
For sure! I think most of my life I’ve been misunderstood so now I’m very much ok with it. As far as my arts go….starting off as a model in the industry & gaining a lot of traction with that, then transitioning to art it took a little while branding wise for people to catch up. I think a lot of the time people will see me and then apply a false perception / stereotype because of my image or the lifestyle they think I live. You just gotta have a conversation with me, & you’ll see I’m a very deep, loving, & creative soul. And my art is a reflection of that
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Originally from Lancaster, PA, JVNCLRK started creating in various mediums from a young age. He’s always been very curious & had an innate understanding that through exploring himself & the world around him, he’d be able to channel & release his experiences into artistic outlets.
He’s a self taught artist in every way. Whether that’s painting, drawing, photography, fashion design, writing, engineering, etc. He believes being self taught has allowed him to be able to build without parameters set from schools or others telling him the way to go about his works. His art philosophy focuses heavily on allowing your art to be a reflection of you, & as time goes on, it too will evolve. He mentioned the greatest skill when it comes to art is understanding yourself & the world around you. Studying is key. Experiencing is key. The only thing that stands in our way is ourselves.
For JVNCLRK we see his art as a series of peeling back layers of himself through his collections.
In 2022, we saw him pull in themes of nature & where he called home in his curation of THE PROGRESSiON COLLECTiON. With over 250 invitees attending, this was a night full of various entertainment & JVNCLRK’s first public display of his art. This experience brought more attention to his abilities, & allowed him to sell his first piece as a professional artist.
Since moving to Miami we’ve seen JVNCLRK continually diving deeper into his creativity through various mediums in the arts & entertainment space as a model, influencer, stylist, & creative director to name a few of the hats he’s put on.
Recently, he created over 50 pieces for his latest collection FEELiN BLUE. Which was based around his healing journey the past 2 years. This collection gave us reflection, healing, peace, & resilience as primary themes. JVNCLRK’s ultimate goal was to show us “feeling blue” isn’t always a bad thing. In this space we are able to shed our layers & begin new if we choose to.
Now known as a multifaceted artist and entrepreneur with a bright future,
you can usually find JVNCLRK working on himself & his many projects across the US.
He is focused on growing his brand & finding more ways to provide value to others.
Whether that be through his arts, education, financial assistance, or simply lending a hand or ear to someone in need.
He believes everything starts with self.
And as we better ourselves,
we can better the world around us.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have a lot to be honest.
I guess from an egotistical perspective, I’m doing it to be remembered forever.
We’ve seen art is a way to continue someone’s legacy far past the time they serve here on this earth. & not only do I want to be included in that category, but I plan to be known as one of the greatest creatives / tastemakers of all time.
On the flip side of that….art is healing. Through my works, I hope it provides a level of energy that allows individuals to find peace within themselves. And I want my art to be something that allows individuals / families the ability to gain large levels of wealth through it. My current collectors & their families that come after will be good for lifetimes.
My creative journey is ultimately a process of self discovery & global impact. I won’t give away too much, but just know my art is just a stepping stone to create positive changes for humanity.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I could talk about this topic for hours cause I think it’s a large subject with a lot of smaller conversations that go deeper & deeper.
But to keep it simple…buy our works. Share our posts. Go to our events. Help connect us with brands that have the money to support creatives. Stop buying the basic Home Goods, iKEA, etc. art products. Buy from an actual artist. Get something unique. Get something that actually has energy put into it & not just a manufactured product.
Especially if you have family & friends who are creatives. Hire them for your next project. If you can buy all these designer items, & these celebrity this or thats, then more than likely you can buy their works
Creatives are the ones who are pushing our society forward.
