We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josueños. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josueños below.
Josueños, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project to date would be between 2 songs written at life altering stages of my life “First Time” in 2015 and “LIME” which dropped just over a month ago.
“LIME” being most recent, ill go into that project.
This is probably the most intimately ive shared this and probably will stand as such.
in 2020 around this same time of year I was planning my first EP release, moving, and a few other goals in that season. On the 5 year anniversary of me coming out as “Bi” to my parents I decided to share with my father that I was going to open up publically about my sexuality to help open conversation around Faith and sexuality. I shared my heart for helping people out of consideration for his reputation as he had discussed difficulty processing when i had first come out years earlier. His response?? “Oh…since we’re coming out and being honest, im going to come out too. Ive been cheating on your mother and im not sure we’re going to fix things…since were coming out and being honest” i sat in silence processing his poorly timed revelation that flew solely out of spite.
Obviously so much more followed after that conversation, but in it all…In the emotions of betrayal, Distrust, Hurt, Loss, Pain, i wrote and created one of the most personal projects id ever write or record. Funny enough I wasnt even sure id release the song because for years i felt obligated to stay quiet about what my family went through. I still felt like i had to hold my tongue for the reputations of everyone else. Then a realization came…My story is not only equally allowed to exist and be heard, it should be. What for years felt like possible betrayal was actually the most liberating and healing step in the entirety of the mess. Honoring myself and getting what i wanted off my chest. Not pretending nothing happened or that i was unfazed, but sharing what Id gone through, how, and who that makes me as a result. I think often times we find ourself so married to the perception people may hold of us that we wont even allow ourselves to hurt out loud for fear of stepping out of our perceived “image”
As i found my strength and my voice, sharing my experience felt like the only option. What at one time felt like a wall infront of what i could share is actually a bridge waiting to connect me the freedom of vulnerability and walking fully in my art, be if bright and beautiful, or dark and painful. The art has to be shared. The multiple lessons of healing and release not only gave me fresh perspective and redefinition, it helped seal so much more meaning into the song and the story behind it.

Josueños, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Absolutely! My name is Josueños. Im a singer / songwriter / Vocal producer from GA, now living in LA.
From a young age I knew I loved music, just didnt know how much. Until highschool / freshman year of college. I couldnt get away from my guitar and my laptop. ordered my first microphone and my classes paid dearly for it. BUT it gave me perspective on what i actually wanted, which wasnt an international business degree at the time haha. Following my first year, I moved to California where people seemed to be more invested in art, music, and the overall creative energy I felt lacked in GA at the time.
Moved to California and never looked back.
Over the years the landscape and direction of the industry has changed, but my dedication to what i hear / see in my head maintains as there are few thrills as exciting or captivating as creating and therefore impacting the reality around you. Art, Creativity gives us that ability and I’m in Love with that potential. Whether im working with producers, videographers, dancers, or other singers, its always magic to see someone(s) work together to bring something to fruition that didn’t exist prior. The crazy part is, we all have this ability in different fields and lanes.
For me personally, creating songs gives me the opportunity to pour straight from my spirit.
Sometimes its with words, sometimes its with harmonies or runs, but regardless an instrumental always leaves this open space to explore and share how you feel or think, even if its not based in reality or commonality. if you feel like a robot today, you can make a song about that, and if you feel like a rabbit tomorrow you can make a song about that. Youre neither right nor wrong, simply expressing and the coolest part, someone on this huge earth will hear it and connect with what its conveying.
When it comes to my personal process, I try to sit in what the instrumental is saying. Is it asking for a hero? someone heart broken? a merman? What do i feel from this? While i generally like to hit “record” once i have something written, oftentimes the best melodies, flows, and lyrics come from just hitting play and capturing whatever that moment felt like to you. As long as you stay receptive, theres always something to draw. The producers and instrumentals i work with do tend to have their own direction. Somewhere in the Jazzy, electric, underground, latin, video game space youll hear me laying tracks of vocals while covering things from love to being a ninja. If i feel it, ima want you to feel it when im listening and thats the drive that goes into every lyric written and note sung.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal is to connect with people through music. The goal is to connect people to love and life through the music. The goal is to open doors beyond myself, through the music.
My limited understanding of all things falls to this, God is Love, God loves us. “Talent” “Creativity”, Gods investments in us to show not only us, but those around us the many ways his love operates.
If you create, whether thats music, food, paintings, shows, graphic design, etc, you have the ability to create things that impact people, allow people to feel seen, loved. Use that.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of living a creative life is seeing the downloads God sends you.
Someone could be on vacation and get the inspiration from their trip to make a song that changes the world. No artist ever knows where their art will go or who will come in contact with it, but you can share and find out. More so, even if you dont share your art (though you should) you still hold the ability to create things that enrich and impact your life for the better if no one else. That within itself is still an immense blessing.
