We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joss Gomez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joss, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Well, since I was little I was around show business because my family owned a bid entertainment company in Mexico City, so I started being on TV and film since I was little, but after college when I moved to Los Angeles was when I decided to do it part time and few years ago was able to do it full time and I feel I’ve accomplished a lot but the best is yet to come.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been working very hard for the last 20 years and thank god I’ve been lucky to be doing things that I love including Producing and Directing movies, also Entrepreneur/Publisher/Actor/Musician and lawyer born in Mexico City graduated from law school in Mexico City (UNAM) and also studied Communications in Texas (UTEP)
I started my entertainment career when I was young and started getting roles in Mexico in classic Novelas such as Teresa with Salma Hayek, Quinceanera, Carrusel and more. After finishing his Law studies in Mexico City I moved to Las Vegas where I started going to auditions, and working in movies such as Oceans 11, Rush Hour 2, Scorpion King, etc, then I decided to move to Hollywood CA to pursue my acting career, and started working on TV Shows and Movies including The OC, Summerland, Shark, Providence, The X files, XXX State of the Union, etc.
I have worked along side the biggest movie stars in the world such as: Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Jackie Chan, George Clooney, William Shatner, The Rock, James Woods, etc.
Mr. Magic as Im also known, put my acting career on hold after launching The MAGIC IMAGE HOLLYWOOD MAGAZINE in 2010, and now has become one of the bigger Entertainment Magazines in Hollywood.
I also started producing red carpet Hollywood events in Los Angeles such as The Queen of Hollywood, Magic Image Hollywood Awards, beauty pageants, charity fundraiser events, movie premieres, etc.
On 2016 I Produced, Directed, Starred and Wrote the Sci-fi movie Among Us, now on Amazon Prime.
I suffered a heart attack on 2016 and started working with several heart foundations trying to touch and educate people about the number one killer in the world.
I Produced and Directed the comedy Television series called Las Garnachas, the movie Chikitito Meow having the privilege of working with the international movie star Mr. Chikitito, also the action movie Team of Two and currently working on the SuperHero action movie THE LEATHER MAN and the horror/thriller movie My Movie.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think everybody in the world should be doing what they really want to do in life, whatever your passion is you should do it, of course is not easy and is very hard! I’ve had so many different kind of jobs because as anyone else I need to pay my bills and support my cat! But, if you really want something you need to make it happen and go for it! So I started my own business, then my own events, then my own movies, etc, it was very hard and still hard to make ends meet but the important thing is that Im doing what I want to do and what I love so Im having fun and I feel Im lucky because I do what I do and everybody should be following your dreams and have fun making them happen! You live only once and time flies so when you realize you are not doing what makes your heart beat faster it might be to late so start doing it now!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, first of all I want to have fun doing what I like to do (my job) and then I want people to have fun with the things I do, either, events, magazines, parties, movies, pageants, etc.
I want to make people forget about all the bullshit going on in the world now and in the past and for sure there will be much more in the future. I also want to send a good positive message in everything I do. I want to be successful and happy and Im working very hard to achieve my goals, sometimes the journey is not fun but, we just need to keep going because time goes by fast and there is nothing we can do about that and we need to fight against time too.
