We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Josmar Lopez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Josmar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
When I was starting my construction services business, I started to offering our services to small companies, because I knew that I did not have the capacity to offer our services to big companies, I did not have enough workers, nor the necessary equipment, nor the capital, however I started to notice that construction was slowing down and small businesses were not requiring our services as much as usual, So I had to do something about it, I started knocking on more doors but no one required our services, so the only solution left for me was to try to provide our services to big companies, I’m talking about multi-million dollar companies. So we started trying to reach these companies and we knew we didn’t have what it took to provide our services to them but we still tried to work for them. Until one day one of those companies decided to give us an opportunity, we had a meeting with them and we tried to be as professional as possible, everything was going well until they showed us the project, at that moment I knew that it was going to cost a lot to be able to offer them our services However, I was not going to back down, so we signed the contract and after that day we began to look for a way to have more workers, more work equipment, because we already had the contract and we could not cancel it. So the big day arrived and the nerves were not lacking, but we did it, we finished the project on time, they were happy and the truth is that at first they doubted our ability but we were able to show that we are capable of doing this type of project. Currently we have done large and small projects in different cities. I think if we hadn’t taken the risk and accepted that project, we wouldn’t have learned that taking risks can change everything.
Josmar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I consider that I have always been a curious person and I like to learn as much as I can from people and life in general, this has led me to want to try different jobs, different places and it has also led me to try my luck in different industries, from creating a YouTube channel to our current business which is Construction Services. I created my YouTube channel to share with people the beautiful places in Tennessee, because I believe that there are very beautiful places in this state that not everyone knows about. My curiosity and desire to learn also led me to learn about the real estate industry and now I started to do Wholesaling, and of course the main business, All City Services, All City Services is dedicated to provide construction services to builders, from residential to commercial, we are proud to say that our partners are happy with the service we provide because something that characterizes our company is the quality, the kindness, and of course the availability that we have to meet the needs of our customers.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I believe that if you are going to do business with someone, that person has to have your trust and know that if I am not present in the business, my partner will be able to run the business without me. so knowing this I realized that this person would be my mother, I trust her and she has worked in the construction industry for around 15 years, so she became my business partner and I thank her for trusting me and I appreciate her hard work. because many of our contracts we have won thanks to her.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Actually, there are many things that help you create a good reputation in the market you are in, but I believe that responsibility and courtesy are what will help you create a good reputation, be responsible with the service or product you give to the customer, be responsible with the things you say on social media and especially when you have a big audience, be kind to the people around you, be responsible for yourself, work hard and take care of yourself.
