Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joslynn Broughton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joslynn, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The process of going from idea to execution begins with risk. You literally have to decide one day whether or not you are willing to risk everything in order to start and that’s what I did and still doing. I would constantly talk about wanting to create no matter what it being I would make sketches write notes on everything I needed to start then one day over time I realized me going back and just adding on to notes isn’t doing anything so I began to actually start buying the things I needed, researching how to go about starting, learning new techniques, watching videos to get a better understanding, and practicing. I got tired of saying what I was going to do and just started putting effort in. Even if I didn’t have or could get all resources I made a way. Your phone comes to great use I was making logos, intros, mock-ups, speaking to vendors, using a app to do a green screen to add special effects to videos etc. That taught me you can’t limit yourself to what you don’t have. I did take a long time just planning because I lost drive when dealing with situations in life I had to realize time waits for nobody which is why this year I’ve actually put into action and set stop dates for what I’m aiming to launch. It took me being hard on myself to do that, and also motivation from others. When I questioned if anyone supported what I was about to do reading books and podcasts really gave me a understanding that things will come together it all starts with believing in yourself first and your supporters, customers, and critiques will come with it. So even to this day I stay focused we all get sidetracked sometimes but as long as you stick to the goal and not stop is what overpowers it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Joslynn Broughton, I am a creator of many things, I customize shoes, created a clothing brand called Cap Revive, making intros/outros for YouTube channels, in the works of learning how to Tattoo, and create content on social media. So much more that I would like to take on but altogether I am a entrepreneur. I’ve always loved shoes and fashion which is why one day I was drawing a shoe in class, I always thought like it’s so many color ways that I’ve never seen actually come out so I figured if I can create and paint it why not try it and that was one of the reasons how I got into that. I’ve always just wanted to work for myself it’s great to work and have side things going on until you’re able to take it on full time if that’s something you’re passionate about doing it’s no time limit on how long it will take. For any clients I have I go above for it they find a issue or would like something custom a certain way my goal is to do just that. I take pride in making others happy and have a great experience with me and my business, The thing that sets me apart from others is that this is ME. I simply want everyone to win, I want success and want others to succeed and I know for a fact there’s no limitations on what I’m capable of I will get it done and to the best of my potential. I’m most proud of taking that risk because that’s what it starts with. You have to branch out and let it be known that this is what you want and you won’t stop until you get it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is a big impact especially in todays times. Honestly just posting before having a business helps, you interact with many or they come across you. I would make YouTube videos whether when I first started and wasn’t getting many views I was still getting some and you never know who will come across what you post. The more you put out the more different individuals will see that’s how I think. When I started getting on tiktok it was just a fun outlet and once I saw how many people actually view and see things I create that’s when I realized incorporating business videos and what I do into videos would also be a great way to expand yourself. All I would say is keep creating, I see many people I follow and just on my fyp or timeline on all social media that just constantly post there business and you never know one day a post could really take off. We are in a time where going viral is present and it could take that one post or that one video for the right people to see it and you just impacted your business with supports, clientale, or a new business opportunity.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time where I had to pivot in my life and career was when I came upon a low point in my life. I didn’t have the urge to work on even pushing my business, I was going through a lot in life and felt in a dark place. I stopped working towards my dream and just felt alone. It’s multiple things that got me over that like leaving situations and people that weren’t helping me alone. Realizing nothing or nobody is going to wait on you was a big one. We all just get older and time just keeps going so you’re either in ready to take on your goal or you’ll get stuck in depression and the habit of saying I will instead of I’m doing it.
