We were lucky to catch up with Joslyn Marie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joslyn Marie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursuer a creative/artistic path after singing at a school talent show in 3rd grade. My parents were always playing music around our home between so many different genres. But after I performed and the audience connection that was given from my classmates/teachers. It was definitely a moment where I was just as shocked as they were. I didn’t know I could sing and perform like that. But something came over me naturally, once I stood on the stage and had the microphone. I just sparkled so much.
After that, I joined choir and started taking voice lessons.

Joslyn Marie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a singer, songwriter, performer, and educator of music. I really dived into the industry at a really young age but started right out of high school going to Open Mics all over the Chicagoland area. I went to college for Vocal Performance at Roosevelt University then after graduation I went on tour with my college band throughout the country. We lived in a van for a month and it was a really fun experience. My life has always been about music in any way or form.
Currently, I’m a performer, voice teacher, and curator of events. If you need a mesmerizing soulful singer for your event then I’m here to perform. If you’re interested in perfecting your voice with lessons. I’m also here for that. I have my own studio and I’m also available for virtual lessons, too!
My goal in life is to spread positivity of love and light through music. And I’m always available to offer my services, whichever form that you may need to help out with that.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Networking and meeting people in person is super important. It may take some time for you to feel confident enough to have the conversation with people you may not know directly. But if you stay true to yourself and just talk about what your passions are with people. I know it’ll help connect you to the right group of people that will eventually become like your family.
Go to events and support other indie artists. Go to the open mics, send the email, send the dm, post that video, and stop overthinking everything. You will realize that you’ve got the juice. And someone will know it and want to connect with you.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
This is such a complex question to answer because I’ve had so many rewarding moments already. But I’ll definitely summarize.
The most rewarding aspect is the ability to empower others through being an artist. And connecting with others without even having to communicate sometimes.
While performing for a show, if I look over to someone and we make eye connect. They smile then I smile. It’s like instant goodness.
The ability to freely be the woman on stage that helps empower that other person in the audience without even having to talk to one another is another. But I’m grateful for those that have shared that it makes them happy to “see someone like me doing big things.”
As a voice teacher, having the ability to guide someone to feel confident enough to embrace who they are. Work hard on their instrument and motivate them, weekly is another rewarding aspect. I’m truly grateful for all the chapters music has brought into my life.
