We were lucky to catch up with JOSIAHDAVIS recently and have shared our conversation below.
JOSIAHDAVIS, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I made my first song when I was 7 with my dad in my living room, It was such an incredible feeling to have accomplished that, especially at the age that I was everything is so exciting, so that was amazing to me and I still try to keep that same feeling in mind with the stuff i’m making now.
JOSIAHDAVIS, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into music because music was my first love. I’ve always been a creative and i’ve always been in love with art and creating it and being in control of it. I’m very proud of what i’ve been able to create and what i’ve been able to do especially at my age, and I’m really excited for all the things we have planned for next year and the rest of this year. I wanna create a space for people who feel big emotions like I do, and I feel like I’ve been able to do that to this point and I’m excited to expand on that.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I have 2 main goals. Like i’ve already said I want to create a safe space for all the people who are very emotional and feel very heavily like I do. And my second and honestly more selfish goal is I wanna make little me proud. I think about the kid who was making music with his dad in his living room at 7, and that kid who was in a bad place at 13 trying to make stuff to express himself, and I just wanna make sure that their efforts weren’t all for nothing. And i’m gonna make sure of that.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As much as making music is such a fun and reassuring art form, it can also be very mentally taxing, especially with the more emotional form of music I make. A lot of times I go to music as a form of escape and that’s usually what it is, but it also forces me to think about it more and get in my head even deeper, and that can lead to some really bad thoughts and really bad feelings. So creating music is never really easy if your making it very introspectively like I do, but I still love it more then anything.
