We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josiah Russell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josiah below.

Josiah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?

I am thrilled to be an artist. I absolutely love to create; whether it’s strictly music or creating other content, such as video editing, I love making something out of nothing. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I wasn’t a creative and had a “regular job,” and I can’t quite wrap my mind around that thought. The ability to imagine is beautiful in itself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a 21-year-old recent graduate from North Carolina Central University. I began singing at a very young age, three years old, to be exact. Growing up, I never knew that I wanted to be an artist. I just knew all I wanted to do was sing. In my sophomore year of college, I began to take music more seriously, a year before I had the most significant performance of my life at the 2022 Dreamville Festival with Kehlani. This performance served as a launching pad for my career. (Shout out to her!) I released my first single, “Let Me Be Me”, in January 2021 and my second, “Make It,” in June 2022. “Make it is currently rearing 300, 000 streams on Spotify! Check it out!

What sets my brand, Josiah Russell Media, apart from other brands is the genuine relationship I desire to build with my clients. I’m very personable, and I love to connect. Also, there aren’t a lot of young men singing Gospel Music these days! That is what I’m most proud of. Josiah Russell Music is a subdivision under Josiah Russell Media, which provides live vocal performance, voice-over acting, content creation, influencer marketing, and hosting!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

Currently, I am reading the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. This book has changed my paradigm in my day-to-day life. I view obstacles as opportunities and have changed my thought process from thinking things are happening TO me to things are happening FOR me.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I want to draw young people closer to Christ. To share my story and for them to know that it’s okay that you’re not perfect but progressing. Life is a marathon, not a race. We strive for the process over the product, which is why I leave old singing videos on social media so that people can see the growth!
