We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshuah Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshuah below.
Alright, Joshuah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Helping musicians and local bands that I enjoy has always been a passion of mine. My band that I’m currently in, The Obsidian Resurrection, actually broke up back in 1999 and last year reformed to finally release our album that has been collecting dust this entire time. Back then I helped organize a very large group of bands in our area that made our local underground metal scene explode. It got so big that it eventually started branching out to different states, then different countries, just a enormous amount of bands helping promote each other for the love of the music and the scene. Fast-forward to now and my band has reformed and I am taking a risk and creating yet another community of like minded bands and musicians to come together and help support and promote each other, a year into this and we are approaching 200 bands, have memebes from all over the world in each country and on every continent. I’m trying to turn this into a functioning band management platform where bands can cut out the middle man and ne their own managers to help save them money which is crucial to underground artists. This is certainly a career change at the age of 42, but it’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing for the sake of the music and the people in the metal scene.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I myself am a musician and a lover of music. I take that passion to heart and help others to get a wider audience that I feel that all the bands within our community are more than deserving of. I am proud of everything I have poured into this community that I call Metal Incorporated, it has had its fair share of intense struggles, from having to start over from scratch 6 times when it came to building our official website, to being stabbed in the back by a few people along the way, but it has all been worth the push forward every day to witness this grow and to experience those moments when everything works and goes according to plan. I am most proud of everyone in Metal Incorporated for sticking with me through all the ups and downs and for continuing to believe in this community, it’s very satisfying and helps me realize that all the downsides and pitfalls have been worth it on this journey together with all of them.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Just simply put, support these artists out there struggling day in and day out, grinding like crazy and putting their blood sweat, and tears into their passion. Go to their shows, buy a album or a shirt, tell them that you had a blast at their show or that you enjoy a particular song, all of that goes a very long way. Just be supportive because this is a very cutthroat business and it’s certainly overcrowded so it’s very difficult for bands to be noticed.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The moment when it all comes together. It’s like electric magic. It surges through you and gives you chills. It’s a great feeling hearing all the pieces come together as a whole.
