Joshua , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Our story comes from watching my mother, a single parent struggle to keep our car in good working order so we had transportation. I watched her save pennies to always make sure we had a good working car and sometimes ask for help in paying for repairs. I had decided at a young age that i would obtain the knowledge to help cut the cost of the repairs. not knowing at that time, I would fall in love with my work, and it became a lifelong goal of mine to help people who as struggling to make enough money for costly repairs to their cars to just get back and forth to work to provide for the families they love so much.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I come from a small-town background. when I was growing up community was everything. We were proud of where we came from and what our town represented. I kind of got into the Automotive industry out of necessity. I wanted to help my mom save money on car repairs and knowledge was a means to do so. I hung out at local shops and watched and asked questions when they would allow me. We are a full-service automotive repair shop; we offer everything from headlight replacement to full engine swaps and rebuilds. Some time we solve very simple problems like blown bulbs to some very complex issues such as electrical issues. We are proud of our standards: Honesty, Transparency, and integrity. We thrive on those three values in every customer we serve and every vehicle we service. We are a family owned and operated business. We have children so we understand the importance of a safe and reliable vehicle to get your family from A-B safely and still have money in your pocket for everyday needs

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

We meant in high school. He was taking some of the same classes i was taking. we became fast friends. kind of had the same background. both of grow up in a signal parent home and learned our skills out of necessity and love of the craft. and one day as we were talking, he stated that his dream was to one day own a shop of his own. I replied that i also had the same dream. and MKO’s was born. we graduated and he left for the military for two tours in Iraq and we lost touch for about 10 years. then one day he popped up on my doorstep and from that point forward we have worked to make our dream a reality.

Any advice for managing a team?

I believe in an open-door policy. I don’t hoover over my mechanics. If you hire someone you don’t trust to do the job, then why did you hire them? We hire people who have the skill and the knowledge to do the job we need. Background checks are vital to any employer who is looking to hire qualified employees. we like it lighthearted; Music is a plus in my shop. It always helps morale when good music is playing in the background.
