Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua Tomann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the best boss, mentor, or leader you’ve ever worked with.
The best boss I ever had is a man that goes by the name of Kyle Keough. Kyle was the manager at Elite Edge Transformation Centers when I started working there in 2017. Today, he is my coach and mentor in powerlifting. Kyle is everything you want to be as a coach; he’s smart, calm, calculated, and dreams as big as you dream.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Josh Tomann, I am the sole owner of Superior Strength Powerlifting LLC, located in Duluth, Minnesota. I orginally got into the fitness industry when I attended Alexandria Technical College. I graduated from that school with an associates degree in health and wellness. From there, I went and finished my four year degree at Concordia University in St. Paul. While going to school there I worked as a personal trainer at the YMCA. After the Y, I moved down to Des Moines, IA to start working as a bootcamp coach at Elite Edge. After working my way up to manager at Elite Edge, my wife and I moved to Duluth, where I decided to open my own coaching business. I have been powerlifting since I worked at Elite Edge, and I have managed to work my way up the ranks to be in the top 100 strongest people to ever exist in my weight class. Through my experience coaching, I have developed a unique sense of patience and persistence with my clients. I aim to inspire those to reach their full potential, because I truly believe strength is the gateway to taking charge in your life, and I want others to feel as liberated as I do.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think the most helpful thing thats helped my success is my willingness to put people first and demonstrate genuine care when my clients are struggling. I have been through trials and tribulations myself, and the solutions I find seem to be universal the older I get. Simply listen, without listening to others there is no path to a long-term solution.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would 100% keep my profession. The only difference is I would have started my powerlifting journey sooner so that I could of taken advantage of early 20’s/late teens gains. Younger people have an extraordinary ability to recover quickly, compound that with more time and you will reap more success from having a longer run in this sport.
