We recently connected with Joshua Thezard and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My passion for photography deepened as I delved into the realm of film photography around 2019. The anticipation of capturing moments on film, not knowing the outcome until the lab-processed them, added an element of excitement to my craft. This journey of exploration led me to consistently experiment with various photography styles and film stocks, broadening my understanding and proficiency in the art. After witnessing significant growth in my photography and receiving positive feedback on social media, the confidence to pursue it as a career emerged.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a self-taught film photographer who specializes in shooting both medium format and 35mm. My journey into the world of photography began out of sheer curiosity and a desire to capture the world around me uniquely and timelessly. I stumbled upon film photography around 2019, and it instantly captivated me. the process of carefully composing each shot, the anticipation of waiting for the film to be developed, and the tangible, authentic quality of the final images. It’s a craft that allows me to slow down, connect with my surroundings, and truly immerse myself in the art of storytelling through visuals. What sets me apart from others in the industry is my dedication to preserving the art of film photography in a digital world. I take pride in my ability to capture moments with honesty and authenticity, using traditional techniques that have stood the test of time. I’m most proud of the connections I’ve been able to create through my photography – the moments captured, the stories told, and the emotions evoked. It’s fulfilling to see how my work resonates with others, whether it’s through a portrait or a landscape. For potential clients, followers, and supporters, I want them to know that my photography is more than just images – it’s a reflection of who I am as an artist and a storyteller. I strive to create work that is timeless, authentic, and deeply meaningful, and I’m always excited to share that passion with others.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society’s best support for artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem lies in active engagement with their work on social media platforms. Liking and resharing artists’ posts not only provide them with encouragement and recognition but also amplifies their visibility and reach. This increased exposure can attract potential clients, collaborators, and opportunities for exhibitions or commissions.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is indeed the ability to bring an idea to life exactly as intended. It’s an great feeling to see a concept that was once just a spark of imagination manifest into a tangible image.
