We recently connected with Joshua Stewart and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I’ve always said, “you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” This quote is leading thought in my head before I go to execute on any idea, opportunity or new business ventures.
because of all the counter productive thoughts that bum rush you before you actually begin the process of ideation to execution.
Lucky for me most the two businesses I run I’ve always had supporting business partners, but throughout every business there’s a lot of ideas that have to be executed on.
My first real business partnership started at Morehouse College summer of 2016, where I became the Co-Founder of Ordinary Odds a lifestyle brand with 3 main sectors of fashion, music, and events. We’ve recently re-launched in 2023, but came back with our own sneaker silhouette which has done very well. My second successful business started in 2017 where I started as a distributor in the, IM Mastery Academy, where I executed on my vision to not only learn the skill of day trading, but also built a massive organization of 30,000+ customers doing over 40+ million in revenue.
Throughout my business career, there’s still a process I follow to go from idea to execution. To start, you have to understand that everything that comes to pass must first be spoken and written. So, I get the idea from my head and write it on paper and read it out loud to myself, not once, but every day. I also take the time to write out all the things that could stop me from executing my idea (aka figure out who your enemy is). It’s hard to defeat what you don’t know, so I make all my distractions, bad habits, and future problems known before I get started. Now it’s time to create a strong vision, and with that vision, identify who I would want to be on my team to support the vision and also identify the target audience, which is who the vision will impact. Now, having a strong vision, it’s time to work and always feed faith and starve your doubts. Keep in mind that the money will flow the more valuable you become. Money is attracted, not chased, so never operate in the need of money. Operate in abundance and become more and more valuable, and the money will chase you.

Joshua, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I‘m Joshua Stewart a serial entrepreneur, full time investor/day trader, and Co-Founder of Ordinary Odds a lifestyle brand. I was born and raised in Memphis, TN, but due to my choice of business I’ve been fortunate to travel to 26+ states and 9+ countries teaching people on the importance of financial education and motivating milllennials to become the optimal version of themselves. I helped my first company where I was a top affiliate generate over a billion dollar sales doing over 4 million dollars in revenue over 5 years. I’ve also designed my first ever sneaker for my brand, Ordinary Odds, which has caught fire in the fashion industry.
As a young entrepreneur, businessman, speaker, and investor, my commitment lies in catalyzing positive change within and beyond my community. I look at life as a big opportunity to do whatever your heart desires, which is part of the reason I don’t box myself into 1 industry or 1 career path. I want to show people it’s possible to be multifaceted and it doesn’t matter where you start its all about where you end up and you have the ability to control your own destiny.
Originating from modest beginnings, God has always been at the center of my life, brand & business it is through him in which I give all praise. I also give adherence to these core values: respect, accountability, provision, wealth of knowledge, gratitude, and keeping my word has also been the cornerstone of my ability to ascend and achieve success. So if you’re reading this and you’re looking for a way to generate income online, diversify your investment portfolio with day trading or just increase your wardrobe with some new drip, I could be your guy.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe I’ve built a strong reputation because of my dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. It all starts with consistently delivering high-quality work and strive for perfection in every task undertaken. Overtime I’ve learned to demonstrate expertise and being sure to stay abreast of industry trends so I can continuously enhance my knowledge and skills. Integrity and professionalism are also key components. It’s important to remain honest and fulfill commitments which has allotted a level of trust and credibility among colleagues and customers. Lastly, my ability to cultivate strong relationships within and also outside of my industry is essential, as networking strategically has opened doors to new opportunities and collaborations that I couldn’t have created for myself.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I’ve managed teams of 10 to 20K+ so here is a few things I focus on when managing and building a massive organization:
1. Vision & Goals – The vision must be clear and you have to set achievable goals to ensure that every team member understands their role in achieving these objectives.
2. Empowering & Delegating – Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, empowering team members to take ownership of their work. Doing so will provide opportunities for growth and development, allowing team members to expand their skills and take on new challenges.
3. Clear &Open Communication – Foster an environment of open communication where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas, concerns, and feedback. Regularly update the team on project progress, changes in direction, and important updates to keep everyone informed and aligned.
4. Recognition and Rewards – One of my favorites – people love to be recognized for their work & accomplishments so always acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and contributions of team members through regular recognition and rewards. Celebrate achievements and milestones, both big and small, to boost morale and motivation. Fliers, Company emails, posters, trophies, allowing others to speak and even certificates are great ways.
5. Collaboration is Key – continuous collaboration and teamwork by creating opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing. Collaboration will build your organizations camaraderie and strengthen bonds to enhance productivity.
6. Provide Support and Resources – I try to make sure that the whole team has the necessary resources, tools, and support to effectively perform their roles. I also have no problem bringing in other experts in my network to come and provide trainings and insights to organization.
7. Lead by Example- The key to real leadership is to lead by example by demonstrating integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic in front of team. Always be the words you speak and set the bar high so the ones following can feel good about following your lead.
By implementing these strategies, anyone can effectively manage a massive team and keep them motivated to achieve their goals and drive success.
