We were lucky to catch up with Joshua Stewart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
During a rough season of my life late last year, I wrote a song talking about God’s love and how it is enough for us to journey through this life. I was able to collaborate with some amazing song writers, award-winning artist, Stermon and a multi talented friend, Nathaniel Gordon. For this project “Love,” I wanted to upgrade the level of musicality and show the growth that I have been working towards over the past few years. As a result, I teamed up with Nathaniel Fredrick, Joshua Russell, Ethan Groves and Victor Johnson who helped bring the project to an all-time high. Three of my friends are also featured on this record, Leandria Smith, Colyn Kristopher and Stermon. This project fully encompasses where I am spiritually, musically and also the path that my artistry is heading towards. Greatness!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Joshua Stewart and I am motivated to do the unordinary and unheard of. My life was shifted drastically when I decided to take a leap of faith and show my original music to the world and those around me. My journey started at the age of six when I started singing publicly at my home church in Nassau, Bahamas. From there, I grew to love music more than anything else in the world. Seeing artists like Kirk Franklin, Jonathan McReynolds, Todd Dulaney showed me that I have the same gift within me. I simply needed to put the work in and develop it. Consequently, I began my quest to create my own original music. Later, I released a number of projects where my growth started to increase and others began to see it. I signed with a label in the Bahamas, Remnant Management Group Music (RMG) and I released my debut single with them as a signed artist. Months later, I received two Bahamas Gospel Music Award Nominations for that project. I began to see how God was moving in my life and I realized even more that this was God’s calling for me. After putting in more work, I released my debut album, “Sincerely.” I felt complete after the release of that project, but later, I realized that God still had more for me to say. The art of creating music is something that is sacred to me. We have a divine way of reaching people and their hearts in ways that words alone cannot. I believe that God gave me this gift and decided to use me as a vessel because I have a unique way of displaying who he is through my music. One of the things that I am most proud of is being able to see other artists collaborate with me and join me in my quest to share the message of Jesus and his love to the world through my personal platform. It is truly an honor. Additionally, as a music producer, I recently started creating other projects for other artists as well. It is always a blessing for others to trust you in crafting their vision and helping to make it into a reality.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to learn was that success does not always need to be acquired alone. For a very long time, I wanted to be successful in music at a young age to prove a lot of people wrong. Even without advice from anyone, I wanted to be able to maintain the story that I succeeded on my own. I did well, but I never reached my potential. After going through that season of my life and being able to look back, I realized that was not the correct mindset to have. There is beauty in collaboration. There is strength in unity. Furthermore, the best ideas, the best projects and music are produced when like minded people come together to create with a common goal in mind.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of the goals that are driving me is to reach the highest potential musically that I possibly can. Looking back and seeing where God has brought me from is heartwarming. I look and see how he led me and guided me every step of the way. Through my mistakes, my hardships, being misled, and even not making the right decisions at times. In the end, it was all about the process. He was grooming me for this moment in my journey. I often say that your current state is not as powerful as your story. How you got to where you are right now is one of the most powerful stories that a human can ever explain. Therefore, my goal is to use music to tell that story in the best way that I possibly can.
