We were lucky to catch up with Joshua Noel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joshua thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing that I feel my parents did right, but I do have a couple of standouts. I feel very blessed to have grown up in a Christian household with two parents that love each other and are committed to each other. Having been married now for 30+ years, seeing my parents’ marriage has truly been an inspiration to me in my own marriage on how to love one another, care for each other, and how to prioritize your spouse and your marriage, with God at the center. The other highlight is them instilling a great work ethic in me. My dad always told me that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. And most days, I tell people that I don’t feel like I am working. Instilling a work ethic to go the extra mile, and to work as if you are working for the Lord, has stuck with me throughout my career.

Joshua, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Josh Noel, and I currently work full time at my church on their production/tech arts team. Alongside of that, one my current hobbies is creating social media devotional videos to encourage and bless others in their walk with Jesus. It’s such a blessing to work at the church I have grown up at, where now I get to lead a team of people who serve on Sunday mornings and get to pour into them and build those relationships. Feeling the call to do more ministry, social media felt like a natural step, as I already had social media accounts, but didn’t use them for anything. In the society we live in, I felt like social media can tend to be such a dark place, so if I could just step away from the “metrics” of social media and just make videos to bless or encourage someone and their day, I felt like that would be a win. My prayer is that in all of the other scrolling and business of the day, that someone will be encouraged and uplifted by just a quick video.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The biggest goal I have on social media is to tell people about Jesus, and be a light for Him. Whether that’s through a post, a short form video, a story post, or a conversation, I want to bless someone’s day and remind them of the truth of the Gospel.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think many people can relate to the Covid pandemic shutdowns. For me, with a background in production and tech arts, all of that shut down once the pandemic hit. I was actually on tour with a band during the first two months of 2020, and then had the tour cancel because of the pandemic. Once that hit, I ended up working with UPS for a time, along with my church’s livestream services, to be able to pay the bills until concert venues began opening back up.
