Joshua, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I just, literally in the last hour (July 25) got finished with an artist residency I’ve been doing in Saudi Arabia Under the Saudi Ministry of culture and Lang lang. been here teaching to a new generation of artist after the uplift of the ban on music in this country in 2018. Also working on film Scoring at the moment among preparing for concerts in the upcoming season

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I just turned 22 (July 20) and have been a professional pianist since I began at age 8. I’ve performed in Asia, Europe, and the States. My mom threw me in to piano lessons as a young person and I was naturally inclined to it. My foundations came from the regiment my father instilled, he was a former professional drummer as a child who started touring with the Staple Singers when he was 12. He understood the discipline and practice needed to become a professional and was my coach, uber driver, and biggest champion. Coming from Chicago, from an African American family, classical music was not something I had heard until I began to play it and currently being now a full fledged professional in the field, I find that it’s important to stay strong to my roots as the music I heard growing up was mostly black American music, gospel, jazz, r and b, and a lot of Michael Jackson. I’ve found ways to infuse it in to my performances but am currently focused on breaking through in the classical industry.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to build connection with people around the world

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The Alchemist and I’m currently reading Jobs by Walter issacson. Also forest Gump is my favorite movie of all time and I still strive to have the magnitude and stretch across disciplines at the highest level like he did.
